V

I began to feel better after telling Joey how beautiful she was. Someone needed to tell her. It's like she's always too busy helping me or working to focus on herself. Another thing I adore about her is that she's always going out of her way to help me, and I appreciate it. That's something that my brethren have never done for me.

I should stop daydreaming. But, I can't.

Ricardo sat beside me and I turned to him.

   "Why are we here?"

He looked over by the water where Joey stood pacing around slowly in the wet sand.

"She wanted to come to a quiet place to think," he answered. "Are you in a rush?"

"No." I shook my head. "I was just curious. But, this isn't the same beach we were at last time?"

   "No."

I wondered what she was thinking about and why was it so important that she had to come out here.

She turned back and looked at me and I took this chance to wave at her.

She didn't do anything in return. No smile, no wave. Nothing at all. Whatever she's thinking about must be really important.

"Joey, what were you contemplating about earlier?" I asked later on once we were eating at an asian restaurant.

"Oh, nothing." She spoke in an unusual monotone voice.

   "What's the matter?"

"Nothing." She shook her head, not once looking up at Ricardo and I during this whole conversation.

   "Are you sure?"

"Fuck, V, stop asking me so many damn questions!" She exclaimed.

"Babe, are you okay?" Ricardo placed a hand on her shoulder.

"Leave me alone!" She threw down her napkin and stormed away from the table.

"Joey!" I ran after her. "I just wanted to know if you were alright! Joey!" She left the restaurant and I was left standing there.

Was I the reason why she was so upset? What'd I do wrong?

I reached for the door, so I could go apologize. But, Ricardo stopped me. I looked over my shoulder at him.

"It's best if you just let her cool off first. Just give her a few minutes."

   "Is she angry at me?"

"I doubt it." We sat back down and I didn't feel like eating anymore.

"I still feel like it's my fault she's upset."

   "Why?" He inquired.

"Because it's my job to keep her smiling, and I failed."

   "Why do you care?"

   "Hmm?"

"Why do you care if she's smiling or not?"

"Why wouldn't I care? She's cared for me all this time. It's the least I can do." I answered. "Why don't you care?"

"I do. I just know when to step away."

"Do you know why she's so upset?"

   "I have no idea."

"I'd better go check on her." I left the restaurant and saw that she was sitting in a bed of plants. I approached her and sat by her side. We sat there in silence until I finally grew uncomfortable from all the quiet. "What's wrong Joey? Please don't yell at me."

"I'm not going to yell at you," she replied, looking up at the stars.

   "Are you okay now?"

   "No. I'm still torn."

   "Torn? Where? Who tore you?"

"No," she chuckled. "Not literally. I'm not physically torn."

   "Oh. Well, good."

"Gosh, I can never stay angry with you around."

"Yay!" I clapped. "I'm doing my job then."

   "What job?"

"I'm supposed to keep you happy. I don't want to see you melancholy or upset."

She stared into my eyes and smiled, a tear rushing down her face. "What's wrong? Are you sad now?"

"No. I'm still torn." She wiped her face and looked back up at the stars. Another tear ran down her face.

"Your eyes are leaking again," I said. I wiped her face with my sleeve.

I held her pretty face in my hands. Her eyes looked like twinkling brown stars. My cardiovascular organ began to pound again and I couldn't control it.

Her lips were pink and round, I just had to show my affection. I leaned forward to place a yiss on her lips and she pulled back.

"I think we'd better get back inside, and finish our food."

I slowly followed her inside.

What was I thinking? I need to control my unstable hormones.

We finished our food and shortly afterwards went out to the parking lot to get in the automobile.

"Are you feeling better now?" Ricardo asked her.

She nodded in response. "What was on your mind?"

"Nothing really. I was just tired." She sighed.

"Really? Should we take a nice shower and nap together?"

"No," she shook her head. "I don't think that'll be necessary."

   "Alright babe."

He leaned forward to yiss her just as I did, but she turned her head away. Making him yiss the air.

   I chortled at his embarrassment.

"What are you looking at?" He frowned at me. I turned my head but kept my smile.
