Chapter Eight~

I turned to look behind me, and was surprised to see that everyone was there, all with tears in their eyes. Grandmother, came to stand beside me, and I stood to my full height and embraced her. Although this time, I did not cry. Mother's death seemed to take part of my soul and crush it into millions of fragile pieces. I knew that I was stronger now, in a sense.

I pulled away from Grandmother and faced Delst. I could tell he was upset, by the look in his eyes, but there was something else. It appeared to be anger. And I realized his anger was towards me. I didn't blame him, I was angry at myself. It was my fault.

Amelia grasped Delst's hand. "Let's have a proper ceremony," she said quietly.

Delst looked at her lovingly, and nodded, agreeing. Delst and Briss then continued to carry her body out the front door, and laid her on the grass that was still alive. Grandmother stood the closest to her, and began to speak.

"It is extremely upsetting that she should die in such a way. I never expected that They would cause so much grief in this one family. But alas, They have managed to do so. My daughter, Selda, was always the strongest of my children, and loving to her own. Throughout this dark time, she has done so much for her kin and for me in my sickness. Her death though, should not be blamed on others, for that is pointless, and will only cause more destruction. We need to celebrate her life, and everything that she has done to get us this far. Let her death symbolize the beggining of something more, something greater than all of us. Let this start the begginning of the rebellion,"

I stepped back at her last sentence. This was not the first time I've heard of such a thing. But never from her lips. I risked a glance at Deslt, and his expression was clear. He thought what Grandmother was saying was foolish. His entire body posture was sarcastic. That only made me more determined. I noticed that Briss too was eager to join this so called rebellion. Amelia on the other hand, was extremely upset.

"You can't be serious!" Delst exclaimed.

Grandmother nodded. "I am,"

Amelia put a hand on his shoulder. "Why don't you bury your mother, and we'll deal with this later?"

Delst nodded once, and began his search for a shovel. Amelia and Grandmother went inside, but i stayed, sitting in the tall grass. Briss decided to sit beside me.

"You alright?" He asked softly.

I said nothing in return. There was nothing to say to him. He knew about the engagement, the plans, and yet he didnt tell me. I thought that he could be trusted, that we could tell each other everything. I was wrong, clearly.

"Look, " He said. "I know you might be upset, but just hear me out okay?"

I glared at him. "No, Briss,"

He sighed and rubbed his hand across his face. "Why?! Why must you make this so difficult?!?"

"Because I thought that I could trust you,"

"And you can Neera! I never showed any behaviour that suggested otherwise!!!!"

"Then why didnt you tell me about the engagement?! About the plans on moving into my home??!!"

"Because...I didnt..."

"You didnt what Briss?! There's no point in hiding anything now, there's nothing left to lose. So spill." I demanded.

He wrung his hands together and looked towards the ground. "I wasn't sure how I felt about you, and I didnt want to make things awkward between us,"

My mouth dropped. Oh. God. If I was understanding correctly on what he was implying, then I knew that he had feelings for me. I would never allow that. Love leads to destruction. And I can't have any more of that. Not now. Not after I lost Mother.

I stood up and ran into the house. Grandmother looked at me curiosly. "I need to go. Grandmother, where are the rumours of the rebellion? Where do I need to go? what do I need to do?" I asked her desperatly.

She smiled at me. "Through the forest and to the East side. There will be a hill, similiar to a mountian, but not quite. Go to the top of the hill and wait til the next sunrise,"

I nodded once, and headed to my room to start packing my things. Once I had everything I thought I would need, I stepped into the kitchen once again. "I will see you Grandmother,"

"Of course child. Remember to stay strong, and fight for what you believe in. Stand up for youself, and one more thing," She held out her hand and i peered into it. She held a silver necklace with a dragon on the chain. It sparkled, even though it was dirty. "Wear this in rememberance of Mother, your father and I,"

"Thank you Grandmother," I said as she clasped is around my neck. "What does the dragon symbolize?"

"It symbolizes strength, feriocity, wisdom, cunning, bravery, stubborness, compassion, and determination," She paused. "It symbolizes you,"

I embraced her. "Thank you Grandmother,"

"You are very welcome child," She turned her head so her lips were next to my ear. "This necklace will allow you entry into the rebellion. Keep it safe child," she whispered in my ear.

I nodded slightly showing that I understood. And without another word, I stepped out the door and headed to the forest, not saying goodbye to Briss or Delst. I was leaving with a new found strength inside, and I hoped that by leaving and becoming part of something great, I could forget about them.
