Chapter Nineteen~
I smiled so wide I thought my face would break in half. “Thank you Callum, really.”
He smirked before gently kissing my forehead. “Well, we have matters to attend to, do we not?”
He took my hand again and led me out of the conference room and back to the room where all the soldiers stood. We went down the stairs to their level. They all bowed their heads at Callum as we passed. Suddenly, a younger soldier came running towards us.
“Sir! Sir!! The Demons have come…within a 30 mile..radius, Sir,” He told Callum, panting.
Callum nodded and patted the boy on the shoulder. “Thank you. Go to Zane and make the proper preparations for Formation A,”
“Yes Sir,” the boy took off running once more.
Callum turned to me and gave me grim look. “Are you ready?”
I nodded, and he went to a table with an array of weapons upon it. I instantly grabbed the sword that I had trained with. Callum smiled and gave me two different sized daggers. After grasping them in my hand, he led me to another table, where I was given a navy blue suit. I was then led away from Callum and into a changing room to change into the suit. I changed as quickly as possible, and tucked my weapons in the buckles and loops pervided on the suit. I stepped out of the room and found Callum waiting for me outside the door. He grabbed my hand once again, thanked the woman who gave me the suit, and we made our way from the room full of soldiers. I didn’t ask questions, for I knew that Callum needed to think about everything, and my questions would only irritate him. He needed the quiet in this tense and suspenseful situation. We made our way back into the main entrance pit, where everyone used to be. There were very few people left. I recognized Zane, and Korah, but that was all.Two other gentlemen stood with them, and nodded to Callum when we reached them. The two gentlemen looked very much alike, and I could only assume that they were related in one way or another. Perhaps even twins, it wouldn’t surprise me. They both had an olive skin tone and round eyes that were almost black.
The one closest to me flashed a smile. “You must be Neera,”
“That would be me,” I said quietly.
“I’m General Ky, and beside me is my brother, Siaren. Are you fighting with us?” He asked me.
I nodded. “I am,”
His eyes grew solemn, and he merely nodded his response. I shuffled slightly closer to Callum for comfort. He sensed my movement and squeezed my hand gently.
“How are the medical supplies?” Callum asked Korah.
She checked a clip board she held in her hand and tucked a stand of hair behind her left ear. “We should be good for supplies. We have enough for 2500 people. It’s the staff I’m worried about Sir. We might not have enough, there’s only five of us,”
Callum nodded and turned to Siaren. “I want you to go with Zane and see how many soldiers have medical experience. Get them all to report to Korah. Korah, I need you to record the number of medical staff once those people have been gathered and report to me. If we need more people, I can surely try to find more,”
Siaren saluted and took off running down the tunnel and into the room with the crowd of soldiers, Zane by his side. Korah bowed her head and made her way to the infirmary. Callum then turned to Ky. “I need you to help Zane control our army. He may know what he’s doing, but the pressure can sometimes get to him. Can I count on you to help?”
Ky saluted. “Yes Sir!”
Callum dismissed him with a wave of his hand and Ky ran in the same direction as his brother. My stomach twisted, the nerves finally getting to me. This was finally happening. I was going to fight in a battle! Although it was certainly exciting, I couldn’t help but be frightened. There was a certain chance of death, especially for me with my lack of training, but I was somewhat comforted by the fact that I would always be with Callum.
