Chapter Eleven~

Callum lead us in a straight line, in a direction away from the hill. I was confused, but did not question it. As much as I wanted to fire 50 questions at him at once, I knew that would not only annoy him, but it would also get me on his bad side. I could not afford that. That may seem like an exaggeration, but I knew nothing about him. I didn't know what kind of person he was, though I knew straight away he held authority. Briss seemed to be loving everything. He had this smile plastered onto his face, his eyes bright with excitement. It only made me happy to see him full of joy like this, to see that for one small portion of his life, They were not controlling his emotions or actions.

Briss glanced at me and winked. I chuckled and rolled my eyes.

Callum lead us into a forest that had trees with dangling branches that threatened to tangle in my hair and lift me up. The forest was dark and gloomy, not a happy place to be overall. I walked closer to Briss, not trusting the vibe I was getting from these trees that towered all around me.

Suddenly, Callum stopped. I came to stand beside him and saw that he stopped in front of a huge cave opening that was built from the side of a huge hill. It looked suspicious, but Callum strode forward, his chest puffed out. He stopped at a rock that jutted out from the side. He reached down his shirt and pulled out a necklace that bore a cougar on it. He took the end of the cougar's tail and scratched the stone three times. All of a sudden, torches burst into flames, lighting up the cavern. He turned to face us.

"Welcome to the rebellion," He said, smiling.

Briss looked at me, and I could see just how eager he truly was. I gestured forward, and he ran to where Callum stood. I fingered my necklace, then followed him. I stopped at the entrance and glanced backwards. This was it. Another step and I would officialy become part of the rebellion. I saw a flash of black to my left side, and I whirled to face it. Nothing was there. I squinted in that direction, but still, nothing appeared to be there. i shook my head. My eyes must be playing tricks on me. It wouldn't be the first time.

I then turned back around and followed Briss and Callum down the winding tunnel.

To me, it seemed like this cavern tunnel went on forever. I was extremely relieved when we reached the end. Well, until I saw what lied ahead of us.

Callum and Briss stood by a large cliff, that had a tiny bridge that connected this end, to the other side. And when I say the bridge was tiny, I mean, it was so small, it reminded me of a two-by-four piece of plywood. My stomach twisted into knots and I groaned. Briss cast a sideways glance at me.

"Scared of heights?" he asked, a hint if sarcasm in his voice.

I gulped and said nothing. I didn't entirely trust my voice at the moment. Briss chuckled at me, and I glared at him.

But Callum lead on, walking onto the creaking bridge. Briss followed, then stopped when he realized I had not followed as well. He frowned and came back to my side.

"Come on. We'll do this together," he told me sympathetically.

I nodded and clung onto his arm as he lead me forward, and onto the bridge. Callum had stopped ahead, waiting for us. When we came closer to him, he continued forward. The bridge sudden to decided it was a good time to swing, and I cried out. I did not want to be on this bridge. Briss put a protective arm around me, steadying me and also letting me know I was safe. I burrows my face into the crook of his arm, and he lead me forward, with my eyes hidden so there was no way I would accidentally look down.

Suddenly, my feet reached hard ground, and Briss let me go, and I collapsed on the ground, hyperventilating. Callum cocked an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed. His reaction frustrated me. He thought me weak. I was most certainly not weak.

Briss leaned down to help me up, and I swatted his arm away. Not breaking eye contact with Callum, I forced my heavy breathing to stop, and I stood, rolling my shoulders back and raising my chin.

"Shouldn't we be continuing?" I asked him, raising an eyebrow of my own in defiance.

He looked me up and down and nodded. He turned and continued down the cavern tunnel. Briss looked at me, concern in his eyes. I payed no mind, and quickly followed Callum.

The tunnel appeared darker here, and was slowly going at a decline. We were going further underground.

We then passed a wall of the tunnel completely covered in carvings and drawings. I stopped and admired the artwork. I saw a carving of a barn owl in flight, and I traced the delicately carved feathers with my finger. It was a beautiful carving.

Callum stood behind me, looking at all the carvings with me. "These are the animals of people who have died in previous attempts to take down Their base," he said in a low tone.

I instantly took my hand away from the wall. All these carvings. People dead. But there were so many! I looked away, pity in my heart.

"Shall we continue?" Callum asked quietly.

"Yeah," I breathed.

He continued down the tunnel, and I waked next to him. Suddenly, he stopped, a crooked grin on his face.

He turned to Briss and I. "Welcome, to the rebellion,"

I stepped forward and took in the view. There was a stairway that led down into a pit, with people running, walking, taking and...laughing. Laughter rang in the air and made my spirits lift. There were different tunnel openings that led away from the dugout, and I only assumed those lead to different chambers.

I glanced at Briss and saw his eyes sparkling. I smiled then, a true smile, something that was foreign to me. This was where we both belonged, there was no doubt now.

Callum then went down the steps, waving to someone in the crowd. Briss ran to follow him, and I was quick to follow.

Callum was talking to another guy who looked his age. He was muscular, with a strong jaw line and broad shoulders. His eyes were narrow and were a pale green. His hair was a tangled red mess, but it suited him.

"Briss, Neera, this is my closet friend, and trainer for new comers, Zane,"

I nodded my greeting, and Briss shook his hand.

"Welcome, both of ya. As he said, I'm Zane, but you both address me as Captain until both of yer training is done,"

"When will we begin training?" I asked.

"Eager one aren't ya? I like that, shows determination. Anyways, you both are gonna have to wait til yer settled in an' everything's been sorted,"

"I'll show you to the training centre when you are all ready. Now follow me, we have to enter you in the system," Callum told us. "Thanks Zane, see you later tonight!"

"Ah, no problem bud. See ya later!!"

Callum lead us away from Zane, and we pushed our way through the sea of people. Murmurs went through the crowd of newcomers, and a new buzz filled the air. It was obvious that Briss was soaking in the attention, with his chest puffed out, smiling at people. Although I was proud, and determined, I also was not used to this kind of attention. I never enjoyed people talking about me, for I was never 100% certain what they were saying. But I wouldn't show that.

Callum lead us through a tunnel that had the letter R carved above the entrance. I assumed it stood for register. This tunnel was different from the one where we first entered. the top of the tunnel in this one was higher, and the width was larger, for two way traffic.

I sighed as we continued. We were finally here. We had joined the rebellion. Now, I could avenge Mother, and make sure that They would not hurt Grandmother.

Suddenly, I heard someone shouting Briss's name. I whirled around, wondering who it could be, especially since I recognized the voice. I squinted my eyes as I saw a figure running towards us. As the person ran closer, I put two and two together, an figured out who approached us. I frowned slightly.

What was Amelia doing here?!?!
