Callum lead me away from the scene, signalling the others to follow as well. We went down the hallway, and left the Girls Hall. He made us stop just outside the door.
"Zane!" He called.
Zane jogged to the front of the group. "Yeah bud?"
"I need you to gather six men to guard the bridge. Make sure they're all armed and know how to use their weapons. Also, make sure there is a variety of weapons as well. Archers, swordsmen, gunsmen, the whole deal. I want a new shift on every half hour to an hour. We need that bridge guarded well. No one is to leave or enter without an official escort. Understood?"
"Yup, got it," Zane nodded once before turning and running down the the hall to gather men.
Callum turned to the group. "Go and inform Kirone of what has happened,"
They all saluted once, and took off running past us, down the hall, turning, and disapearing altogether.
"You must hold authority here," I teased.
He shook his head. "I'm just doing my job here,"
I nodded. "So what are we going to do now? i mean, what is there to do?"
He sighed. "War is coming. I can feel it. i think it would be wise to start your training sooner than we thought. You're probably tired, but I doubt you could fall asleep after all that. We could just run through a couple drills if you're okay with that?"
"Yeah, of course. I would love to,"
Callum smiled slightly and walked down the hall, passing the desk where the lady questioned me. We then turned right, and heard down a thick tunnel that was brightly lit. There was a large opening into the training room, and I could see into it from here. We went in and I looked around. Every weapon imaginable was here, as well as plenty of targets.
"Well, where do you want to start?" He asked.
I looked around at all the weapons and my eyes settled on a rack of different swords. I pointed. "There,"
Callum lead me over to the swords. "With these kind, you need to pick one that fits your fighting style. Since this is new to you, we'll start you with this blade," He took down a long, thin blade, with a round bell guard. I took it in my hands. The grip was small, which I liked, because it gave me more control.
Callum pulled down a thicker blade, with a stick like handle. He walked over to a cleared area, specially made for sword fighting. I followed. We stood across from each other, and he pointed to my feet with his blade.
"When fighting with swords, you'll need to be balanced. Always keep your knees bent, and your feet apart. Preferably at a 90 degree angle if you can. But, when fighting one of Them, sometimes that doesn't always happen. Regardless though, of who you're fighting, always, always keep your feet apart and your knees bent. This gives you the best centre of balance, and balance is key," I moved my feet to a 90 degree angle. "Good. Now, aside from balance, footwork is the most important. a good swordsman is 80% footwork. You need to master that first,"
"Then why do I have the blade in my hand if I'm working on footwork first?"
"You need to get used to the weight, and the feel of the blades movement as you move. Now, I want you to take a couple steps forward, and a couple back. Step in almost a shuffle, remember, 90 degrees, knees bent, feet apart. Go ahead,"
I did as he said, going slowly, trying to remember the feeling of moving in this manner. Callum came to watch to the left side of me, staring at my feet. His constant gaze didn't help much, I was trying to keep my balance centred, and with him watching, my concentration wavered. The blade didn't help. After awhile, it seemed to weigh more and more, causing soreness in my wrists, and my arm to get tired. But I pressed on. I wasn't weak.
