I woke up to nothing but darkness surrounding me.
I could barely see what was before me.
An overwhelming sense of fear threatened to consume me when I realized I was somewhere I was not supposed to be. The atmosphere felt dense and surreal. It was not the last place I was at. It was eerily quiet, too quiet for my liking. I had to find out where I was first.
There wasn't any source of light anywhere. It was pitch black. The air was stale and humid. I squinted my eyes hard, forcing myself to see something, anything at all. But, it was a futile attempt on my end.
I was petrified to move or make any sound, let alone breathe.
My mind began going places that it had never gone before. I feared the worst.
How did I end up here? Where am I? Have I been kidnapped?
My mind was bombarded with so many questions. But, I didn't have the answers to any of it.
My head was throbbing incessantly and I was sweating profusely
I had to calm myself down.
Relax Emma, just breathe...
I knew I had to do something. I just couldn't sit around here and do nothing.
I had no other choice but to feel my way around. Surprisingly, my hands or legs were not tied up. If there was a possibility that I was kidnapped, then why wasn't I tied up?
Focus!
I had no time to waste. I had to know where I was and find a way out of here. I was afraid to stand up and walk first. I couldn't even see the ground. It would be a bad idea to walk around blindly. I decided to feel it with my hands instead. I could feel how cold, rough and uneven the floor was. I reached my hands further infront and felt the ground to see if there were any objects before me. I felt nothing.
I decided to get up and move around instead. I took baby steps forward, hoping that I wouldn't trip over or walk into something. So far, I managed to move with ease.
I won't lie. I was beyond scared. Deep down, I knew that I had been kidnapped. There was no one around except for me here. And, it didn't take me long to realise that I was in some sort of room, basement or attic. My parents would be looking for me. They must be worried sick. How did I end up in such a mess? I could feel the lump in my throat as I thought about them. I supressed the urge to cry when all of a sudden, a bright light illuminated around me.
I could finally see my surroundings and the first thing that caught my eye was a silhouette of a person standing right up the stairs at the doorway.
