The necklaces
Everyone has one
A unique necklace that matches their personality......
.......and the person they're supposed to spend their lives with.
Yeah its true
Everyone has a necklace
Everyone has someone
Everyone but me.
I walked through the hallway like I always did. Glaring at everyone and wishing I was dead. People glared back like they always did. It might be because I glare at them but it wasn't always that way. I used to be a happy kid. Ya know sunsine and rainbows cupcakes everywhere. All that shit.......But then I was born.
They say I had a....bad birth. What I mean is when I was born something went wrong. I wouldn't breathe for the first five minutes of my life. The doctors said I wouldn't make it' They thought I was a lost cause....until for some god damn reason. I took a breath. Woo! I was alive! Big woop. Here comes the big moment. Legend says that right after every kids first breath a necklace apears. Well half a necklace. The necklace is shaped specifically to a persons personality....and their soulmates.Yeah so basically everyone has a soulmate and a necklace. Woo hoo throw a fucking party. Well I should say almost everyone. Because I don't. I Connor Murphy was born without a necklace and by default, without a soulmate.
Lets just say that doesn't bode well with other people. You are supposed to have necklace. If you don't then you might as well not even exist. Everyone hates me. My parents, the kids at school, myself. Basically everyone. But I stopped really giving a shit at about the age of ten.
I walked through the school not really paying attention to anyone I was passing until I ran right into someone. Since I'm the luckiest person in the world I ran into this kid so hard we both fell over and all of our stuff went everywhere. "Oh fuck!" I screamed in suprise. Quickly I got into my knees so I wasn't on the ground like an idiot. I turned around to see who I ran into and found the worst thing I could have. Evan Hansen AKA my crush of about two years sat down in the middle of the hallway staring at me and looking terrified. "Oh fuck. I'm so sorry," I said grabbing at papers and binders attempting to help. He stayed motionless until I handed him his papers. "I'm really sorry dude." I muttered once again before standing up and leaving. I didn't get very far before I noticed something out of the corner of my eye.
It was small. Half the size of a quarter. And a dark brown. That's when I recognized it. Evans necklace I recognized it from some of his Instagram photos. He was one of those guys that put out photos of their necklace so their soulmate can find them. I lunges at it almost knocking over three people in my path. But I got it. I celebrated my small victory and looked down at the small necklace in my hands. Yep. It was Evans. He had the left side of a tree that was surrounded by some kind of smoke. I scrambled to my feet abandoning my binders and ran after Evan.
He fucking disappeared! I yelled at myself. I spent the rest of the school day but I couldn't find him. Fuck. I thought as I looked back at the oak tree Evan would do his homework at. It was the eighteenth time I had been here yet I still couldn't find him. I decided to walk home when I saw a familiar tuft of blonde hair.
"EVAN YO!" I ran towards him and grabbed his shoulder. He sounds around and threw my arm off of him. "Dude! You left this in the hallway!" I nearly screamed at him while I took his necklace out of my pocket and handed it to him. "bro you gotta be more careful. You can't lose this." He took it with a shaky hand. "Th-thank you. Where did y-you find this?"
"It was in the hallway. You must have dropped it." Afterthat there was no way silence between us. "S-so uh. I gotta go home sorry." Evan said pointing behind him. "Oh right. Uh I'll walk with you my house is that way anyway." Evan nodded softly and off we went.
After about a couple minutes of awkward silence I started talking. "So uh. Have you found them?"
"Found w-who?"
"Your soulmate. Have you found them?"
"N-no. The lines will turn colors see," he turned his necklace so I could see and traced his thumb over the carved in tree. "I think it might turn green or gold.....what about you?"
"What about me?"
"Have you f-found your soulmate?"
"Uh. I don't uh have a soulmate."
Evan laughed. Which actually scared me for a minute, "bro everyone has a soulmate. I mean you might not have found them yet but-" "No! I don't have a fucking soulmate alright. I don't have your stupid necklace and I don't have a fucking soulmate okay! I'm sick and tired of explaining this to people."
"W-wait. You weren't born with a necklace?"
"Now youre getting it!" I yelled sarcastically. I noticed that we were at my house and muttered a goodbye. I ran to my front porch and only looked back when I was at my door. I immediately regretted it because all I saw was a sad Evan. He looked at me with scared sad eyes and I could tell he was shaking even though I was far away. I tuned around and went inside without a second thought. Even though I regretted it.
Four days later.
It was about three am and I was playing a random app on my phone when it started raining. The tapping on my window kept my up for around forty minutes until my phone started ringing. I didn't recognize the number but I answered anyway. "Open the fucking window it's freezing out here!"
I recognized the voice immediately as....Evan Hansen.Sorry it's so bad guys. It will be continued.
