Chapter 7: Royal Vault

Kate didn't know that Alice was very rich. The way Alice would dress up as a punk rocker definitely hid her life and family status. And now, here she is, standing in front of Alice's mansion. It stood more than thirty five feet tall and it's theme paint is white and mint green. It was very pleasing to one's eye. When Alice opened the door, she thought she was in an office building. Instead of looking around, she followed Alice instead. She doesn't want to get lost around the place since it looks like those room mazes in the cartoons she used to watch.

"So, are we going straight up the attic? Or do you want to get a snack first?" asked Alice.

"Can we go straight please? I'm very excited." said Kate. Alice sighed and groaned then muttered something. Kate was pretty sure that she wants to go to the snack part first.

When they reached the door to the attic, Kate was very tired. She had to go up to two long flights of stairs then maybe they turned right, right, left, right, then right again. The attic door was about their height, approximately five feet and is painted light blue.

"Okay, we're here. Now, I want you to go first because you persuaded me to this." said Alice.

"What?!" exclaimed Kate.

"Well, it's my house! Plus, I don't want to see that... thing. That shadow thing." said Alice, rubbing her forearm.

"Ugh, fine. Do you have any flashlight?"

"Umm, you don't need to. The attic has a 7-foot tall window on each side. So let's not waste daylight and... Hurry up." Alice said, gesturing to the door.

Kate opened the door and was surprised. It doesn't look like an attic at all. The floor, walls, and ceilings are made of ceramic marble, sure enough there was a window at every middle part of the wall which made it bright inside. It looks like a royal vault. The only problem was there were boxes and trunks scattered. And now, as Kate would know, they would have to wait for the shadow.

"Sooo, what now?" asked Alice. Kate looked back to see her hugging herself and rocking on her heels. Alice shrugged at her.

"We wait." Kate simply said.

"Uhh. Wait for what?"

"The shadow."

"THE SHA-WHAT?"

"The shadow will show us which box to pick up, okay?" Kate explained

"Can't we just look for it? One by one per box?"

"Nuh-uh. Are you really scared?"

"Damn right. That thing scared the crap out of me." said Alice, then she raised an eyebrow at Kate, "What?"

"Umm." Kate pointed down to where Alice was standing. Alice looked down to see what. At first she didn't understood, but she finally did. Her shadow wasn't hers. Alice recognized it and started to freak out.

"Omigod. Omigodomigodomigod OMIGOD!" Alice exclaimed, jumping around, trying to avoid the shadow.

"DON'T." Kate shouted at Alice. Alice stared back at her, face with horror.

"Don't freak out. It's just a shadow. It won't hurt you." Kate said calmly. Alice started to settle down and froze in one place. The shadow began to move over the pile of boxes. Then past to it. It stopped to a small trunk, about the size of a shoe box, then pointed at it. Kate looked at Alice then gestured for her to take the box. Alice pointed to herself with a questioning look. Yes, Kate mouthed. Alice strode across the room. She stared at the shadow and flinched when it started moving again. It disappeared. Alice looked back at Kate then nods. Kate nodded back.

Alice picked up the small trunk.
