Chapter 19: New Horizons

[ALICE'S POV]

I fell hard again. This time, I landed on my knees with momentum. Ouch.

Combat training with three guys who have muscles and abs is not that really that easy. Especially when there were newly baked cookies set on the table near as distractions. We've been battling weaponless and three-on-one for two hours now, and it's almost evening. But I wasn't even tired yet. After three days of training, I developed two more abilities: inhuman reflexes and weapon mastery, which means I would immediately know how to use the weapon as soon as I touch it. Which is also why we're training weaponless.

It happens that one of their abilities are inhuman strength. And I'm getting beat up pretty bad. I would heal afterwards though, faster than usual. But they have to pressure me on training.

"I give up." I finally said, panting, "This is not my thing."

"Sorry if we were hard on you. It's just that you have to be ready." said Chris, patting my head. I know that. I sat down on the chair and ate the cookies without permission. I was also worried about Hex. He should be back by now. His pack was supposed to patrol the forest. I'm worried about him.

I noticed that I don't get cold that much anymore too. Snow fell last night, but it wasn't that cold for me. So here I am, out of the yard, wearing a flannel shirt and skinny jeans. What a perfect Winter time.

I called my dad last night. He was having fun in Quebec. He told me that he'd buy me French books and that he ice-skated by himself. He also said that I should try eating seafoods because they were the "most amazing thing" that he ever tasted. Well, hell no I ain't tasting one. I got up, jogged, and went inside the house. Chris told me that I should always feel at home every now and then. Because this is my home now. And I liked it here. Why? Because I can be more of me in front of people who are like me. Not human at all.

I learned a lot about these guys. Chris Newman, the brother of Kate Vercillo, has four main abilities. Jacob Anthony, an inborn Seer and can summon shadows (those things I hate), and has two more main abilities. Miguel Fantome, a 'Night' like me although he can't tame Night Creatures, but he can manipulate anything natural. And these, are the three guys I'm going to live with for a while. Plus, wolves. My official pack. Their alpha bowed down to me three days ago, making me their official ruler and Queen. I didn't like the title at first, but I'm getting used to it. I have also learned that these wolves are indestructable and immortal (Hex is actually 87 years old), and I loved every single one of them.

I sat down on the couch and turned the TV on. I watched Pokémon (Ha) and it's been a while since I did. Chris and Jacob came out of the kitchen holding a plate of sandwiches, Miguel followed them, holding a tray of four drinks. I raised both of my arms victoriously and they laughed.

"A tough girl deserves food as a reward." Chris said to me, giving me a high-five, and set the plate he was holding down. He sat next to me. Jacob and Miguel sat on the floor. We ate and talked. A lot. And after eating, we played Scrabble for fun. It was getting late. We're still up by the time it was 11PM. We rarely slept.

I got up and went to my room. Hex isn't back yet. I picked my bag up and started unpacking the things in it. I got some of my clothes from back home because Chris was nice enough to sneak in my house. Most of the things in my bag are the hygienic stuffs. I placed them on the vanity table in my room. I also have my Biology book with me. Why? Because I love reading this 1054-page book containing information about life. I also have fun-sized chocolates, in case of emergency. The last thing I took out of my bag is my phone. And it's low on battery. Nope, it's dead. I went down the stairs again to see the boys watching football. I walked over to them.
