Chapter 12: Of Orbs & Wolves

[ALICE'S POV]

I had to do my Math homework and History research before I go to sleep, and it was really, really late. I started thinking if I should call Kate and ask her how she's doing. She must be exhausted. I mean, why wouldn't she?

I went downstairs to get myself some snacks or any food to eat (a habit of mine). My dad's watching NCIS. He saw me and smiled at me. I smiled back. He looks so calm yet so tired.

In the kitchen, I opened the fridge and took out a blueberry cheesecake and a blue Gatorade. Mmmmm, blue.

And there, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a man (who really isn't supposed to be here, I considered him a burglar). I gathered up all of my courage to look, but when I did, no one was there. Frick. I brought back my attention to the fridge. I saw the man out of the corner of my eye again. This time, I focused longer. He's a mist. A vapor. Like a ghost. I was glad to notice that he's not looking at me. But then it hit me.

The Mist Man was looking at my father.

I went up my room and locked the door. Hell, that was scary. What was that about? I was probably in a deep thought because when my phone rang, I almost peed myself. I picked my phone up.

It's Seth. Ugh.

"What do you want?" I asked him.

"You don't live far right?" Seth asked.

"Yeeeeeeeeeaaaa, why?" I pulled my covers up. About to get some good night sleep.

"I'll pick you up. You've got to see this."

Frick. "Seth, do you even know what time it is? I. NEED. SLEEP. Do you even know what sleep is?!"

"I know, but you really do need to see this. It's something about Dreamland."

I paused. And then. "Hurry then, pick me up. This better be important"

Dad didn't protest.

It was a five-minute walk to Seth's house. And it's 11:25 PM. Good-bye, good night sleep. Good bye bed. Good bye soft blanket.

He took me around his house, to the backyard. And there it was.

A smooth stone as big as a volleyball. No, not a smooth stone. AN ORB. A GREEN, GLOWING ORB. Me and Seth stopped dead. Right away, it pulsed.

"What the hell, man?" I said

"I was in my room when I suddenly saw an intense glowing. And I saw that." he pointed at the orb. It pulsed again.

"It appeared out of nowhere?"

"I think so."

"We should call Kate." I said, putting out my phone.

"I did already. Five times. So I just called you instead."

"You could've waited until tomorrow!" I demanded.

"Lower your voice!" he hissed.

"Oh, you can't tell me what to do." I was about to push him when we both heard a howling in the woods, just in front of us.

"Wolves." Seth whispered to me. As if I didn't know. I didn't realize that he was shaking me. I was petrified. I panicked. What if those wolves eat us. Well, I'm not planning my death tonight. Maybe.
