Chapter 20: And They Call This Tradgedy

[SETH'S POV]

Alice. She's always in my mind. And I don't believe that she's dead. She's too strong for that. I know Alice. That can't be right.

After that day happened, a wolf, the very same wolf who carried her away, was in out backyard. I took a knife and went down stairs for it. I need someone to blame. When I reached the backyard, the wolf was by the edge of the forest, beckoning for me to come. And I did. I don't know what of the wolf. When I stepped in the forest, it started yapping like a dog. Then it ran away. I tried chasing it, but I realized that I've got so far from home. I trudged my way back.

And on my way back, I killed someone. No, something. I was walking peacefully when something came out of a tree trunk. It looked like a wood version of those soul-sucking creature in Harry Potter. I was still very angry, and I stabbed it mercilessly. Slimey water oozed out from where I stabbed it. I passed my blame on it.

Maybe it was a creature from Dreamland. But it doesn't matter. Killing doesn't matter either. After Alice have gone, nothing matters anymore. And I felt a bit okay after that. But I still think of her.

I didn't feel like going to school anymore. It's weird without her. I feel hopeless. The next day at midnight, I visited her house. No one was home. It was very sad.

And then they next day after that, the wolf visited again. It started visiting me everyday, looking up my window and staring at me. But I don't follow it anymore. I might kill something again. But I started losing it. I received none stop texts and calls from Seth and Kate. It started annoying me. I don't need them. I need Alice.

And today, I'm expecting that wolf again. I took my bag with me and waited down stairs. What does it need?

The wolf came later this time. I looked at it. It's just staring back at me. I stood up, it stood still. I went to it and I was very near, very cautious. I was about to walk towards it again when it dashed out of view, back at the forest. I ran after it.

I was really breathless when it stopped. And I noticed that it acts like a pet dog. I prepared my knife in case something attacks me again. I'm sorry, I meant something. The wolf sat down from across me and I started walking towards it. It started wagging its tail and I guessed that I shouldn't be afraid of it. It looks tame. No, tamed. Someone tamed this wolf before. As I walked towards it, I could see a green collar around it. Who would tame a wolf? Must be a crazy person.

And it was good to me. I started petting it like a dog. I took a look from its collar and, in silver lettering, I found an etching that said 'Hex'.

"Who would name a wolf Hex?" I asked myself. Again, it must be a crazy person. So Hex is a boy. Now what does it want?

"What do you want from me, boy?" I asked Hex, petting his head. He stopped wagging his tail and tilted his head sidewards. Did I just asked a dumb question? As if hearing my thoughts, it continued to wag it's tail. Yep, it must be.

Hex stood up and started walking, beckoning for me to follow again. I readied my knife. In case, you know. We were probably walking for 20 minutes. I checked my watch: 12:31 AM. Good morning.

As expected, a something attacked. But I was not the one who killed it. Hex did. I saw Hex, before my eyes, rip its throat and slaughtered it. Best. Wolf. Ever. If Hex is a wandering wolf, I could keep him right? Right. I still followed him.

I reached the farthest I can. I've never been here. Never been in this forest to be honest. But after a long while, by 1:48AM, I saw a light. I was coming from a house, but it's still far. Hex must be living there. I was about to talk to Hex when he howled. Then more wolves howled. Shit. We're not alone.

I thought Hex was baiting me as breakfast. But he didn't eat me nor did the other wolves that appeared. They're as big as Hex. They started running towards the house. Hex barked at me and ran. I ran as fast as them, kind of. I was left behind, but we reached the house.

The house was not that brightly lit. But I saw four figures walking towards the house. Three guys and a girl. And I just realized who Hex was.
