AFTER BECOMING THE NEW GIRL, I didn’t know what to do with her. I wandered around town for a while, had lunch in a coffee shop, and bought an ice cream from a parlour.
I glanced up and noticed a flashing billboard, saying:
TONIGHT AT ‘AMERICA’S CROWN’ CLUB: ‘FALLING FAST’ PERFORMING NEW SINGLE ‘WHAT TO DO WITHOUT HER’
That’s when I knew. It was time to show my ex-fiancé that I was a new girl.
So at seven o’clock, I entered the club called ‘America’s Crown’ and joined the excitable crowds.
It was a good job I wasn’t claustrophobic. There was literally no space around me. I had elbows in my stomach, I had hands on my hips and I’m sure there were a few hands near my rear end, but I had no way of knowing. It was literally a sea of people.
I made my way over to the bar with a lot of muttered “Excuse me” and “Sorry”. I ordered a red wine and took a seat at the bar.
Suddenly everyone started screeching and I saw him.
As he walked onto the stage, his eyes skimmed the audience and landed on me. His eyebrows shot up his forehead, his face paling.
He murmured something to fellow band member, Callum Olivers, who stared at him incredulously. Jack nodded.
I booed loudly and the audience, drunk and disorderly, automatically followed my lead.
Jack looked very uncomfortable and I noticed him staring pleadingly at a man near me. I assumed he was the manager and he shrugged at Jack, clearly unconcerned.
Jack nodded to Olivia Brown, the pianist and she began to play.
Jack closed his eyes and began to sing:
" She doesn't love me anymore,
She kicked me out,
She hates me now.
So what do I do?
She thinks I don't love her anymore,
She threw me out,
She doesn't know me now.
Please tell me,
I said,
please tell me,
What to do without her. "
The song continued for a few more minutes, but I wasn't paying attention. I was watching him. His eyelids fluttered open and he scanned the crowd again, a smile playing at the corners of his mouth.
I couldn't control my legs as they took me to the edge of the stage. He picked up the microphone from the stand and descended the stairs of the stage.
As he approached me, I closed my eyes and opened my arms in an embrace. I waited to feel his warm body pressed to mine, his angelic voice in my ear.
But I didn't.
I opened my eyes and saw him with another girl.
She had her arms draped around his neck and in a pause in the music he pressed his lips to hers.
She had auburn curls, tanned skin and... serious cleavage.
It was that girl.
The one on the news.
I snapped out of my daydream and scowled. I clenched my fists as hate surged through my veins like a venom. He needed to know that I had moved on.
So I scanned the crowd and the attractive barman caught my eye. He had a slender figure with handsome features and a stylish hair style.
I glided towards him and swung my legs around the stool, shooting him with the most attractive look I could summon.
His aqua-blue eyes lit up when he saw me and a grin spread across his face, creating dimples in his cheeks.
I glanced over at the stage and saw Jack with the girl at his side.
And he was looking at me.
So I snaked my arms around the bar man's neck and brushed my lips against his.
When I looked back at the stage, Jack was watching me grimly and I smirked.
