Lucy's P.O.V
" Oh my god, Brodie. "
I raked a trembling hand through my copper hair, shock washing over me like a tsunami.
" It's true, " He assured me, his gaze fixed on his thumbs.
" I-"
I was interrupted by a shriek that sliced through the air like a sharp knife.
" MUM!" followed the sound. I sprang from my position, my chair flying backwards as a pain shot up my spine. I winced, hobbling forwards.
" Hey, hey," Brodie said, hurrying to my aid.
" I have to see-"
But before I could finish my sentence, the door burst open violently, the hinges complaining. My mum appeared, her frame thin and her cheeks hollowed.
My lip curled up into a scowl. I couldn't believe what Abbey had done to my mother.
"Lucy," Mum said, staring levelly at me.
A smile dragged the scowl off my face as I held my arms out to my mum. Her eyes dropped to my abdomen, resting there reluctantly. I frowned, following her gaze.
Ah.
" Mum," I began.
" Don't," She growled.
" Just let me explain!" I cried desperately.
At that moment, Jack and Annabel entered the room, worried looks on their faces. Mum's head snapped towards them.
"You knew, didn't you? " Mum said to Annabel.
"Of course," Annabel replied matter-of-factly, "She's my sister. We stick together."
Silence stretched between us.
" This is my fault."
All heads swivelled to face Brodie, mum's eyes narrowing.
" You're fault?" She repeated slowly.
He swallowed, nodding hesitantly. " I'm Brodie Wilson. I'm the father of Lucy's child. "
Mum swore colourfully, her hands positioned on her hips.
"Please can you get into the habit of not swearing, " I said quietly, "Since there will soon be a child in our midst. "
Mum gawped at me, shaking her head in disbelief. " How can you be so calm? Why didn't you get rid of it? You can't have a baby! You're at university. You can't be laden with a child! "Mum shrieked hysterically.
" Enough, " I said coldly, "I've left uni. I'm not going back. Brodie and I are going to raise this child in a home of love. You may have no regard for human life, but I, on the other hand, do."
Mum raised her palm to her forehead, exhaling slowly. " This is a mess, " She breathed.
I shook my head hastily. " No. It's not. "
She held her hands up in surrender. " Very well."
"Right, " I nodded curtly.
"Cuppa' tea, anyone? " Jack called, grinning brightly.

Jack took mum home after lunch, which was probably for the best, as she spent most of the time shooting Brodie and I disapproving looks.
" I have an idea, " Annabel stated when there was only the four of us left, "Let's play Confessions."
I cocked my brow. " Why?"
" Well, there's been so much tension recently and we've all had a lot going on. I think it would be good to just be honest, get everything out in the open," She explained.
Jack shrugged. " I'm game. "
I nodded reluctantly, with Brodie following my example.
Annabel grinned triumphantly. “ Alrighty then. Each person has to reveal one thing that they feel guilty about. Be totally honest. "
I swallowed. This was gonna be a tough one.
"I'll go first," Annabel announced, "I feel guilty about acting like a right cow. I was being selfish and worried you all by just disappearing. If I had died, the last thing you would've heard me say was some snarky comment. I'm sorry. "
Jack stretched his arm across her shoulders, resting his head on hers. " I feel guilty about kissing Lucy. "
Annabel's body tensed as my mouth formed a silent 'o'.
" What? " She spat, pushing Jack away angrily.
His colour drained from his face. " It was when we didn't know where you'd gone. I felt alone. I was scared. I needed someone to comfort me and I kissed Lucy. But it was just because I was confused and upset. It didn't mean anything, honest! "
Annabel's eyes were swimming with unshed tears, her lip quivering dangerously. She turned to me. " Did you let him?"
I frowned. " What? "
" Did you let him kiss you?"
I froze, unsure of what to say.
"Well?" She prompted impatiently.
" Um, I guess at first, but it's kind of the normal reaction. I was stunned, unsure of how to react. When I got over my shock I pulled away, " I told her.
Annabel's eyes darted between us, a tear sliding down her cheek slowly. Suddenly, she jumped up and sprinted from the room, a sob escaping her lips as she disappeared from sight.
