I had no idea how to say it.  The thing that terrified me most was thinking of what would happen if Abbey found out that I... I...

" Rudi? " Annabel frowned so that a dimple appeared in between her eyebrows.  Her face had no make-up on and it was clear that she had made absolutely no effort whatsoever in choosing clothes or making her hair look nice.  But I didn't mind. She still looked beautiful to me.  I could never be with Annabel. But I could still help  her.

I ran my fingers through my hair nervously.

"Annabel,  I have something to tell you, " I replied.

" Okay then..."

I shuffled on my seat and brought the instructions out of my pocket.

" These are the instructions.  But I'm not going to give them to you, " I told them.

Annabel looked shocked for a moment,  clearly not comprehending.

" W-Why?"

" Because Abbey's going to kill you."

" I need to save my mum. "

" Let me take care of that. "

She pursed her lips suspiciously and raised an eyebrow.

" Just wait there," Jack said, "You're going to help us? "

I nodded.

"Why?" Annabel asked curiously.

" Because I believe that what Abbey is doing is wrong," I explained, "You promise to stay away and I'll promise to save your mum. "

" Why do you care so much?" Jack asked, "And plus,  have you thought that she might do to you? "

Of course I'd thought of that!  Did he think I was stupid? Every time Abbey had told me I had to go and spy on Annabel,  my stomach flipped. Annabel seemed more beautiful each time I saw her.  I fell for her.  So when Abbey said she would kill Annabel,  I knew.  I knew that I would be willing to give my life for Annabel. If I had to save her mum,  I would.  Or die trying.

" Do you think that this was just a spur of the moment thing? I've been thinking about it from ages! " I cried.

Annabel placed her hand on my arm and sighed.

" Okay. As long as-"

" Wait," Jack interrupted,  "You're actually going to trust this guy? "

He stared at Annabel incredulously,  but she replied with a nonchalant shrug.

" Unbelievable."

" Ignore him.  Listen, Rudi,  thank you," Annabel said.

Jack stared at the coffee-coloured walls, his arms folded across his chest like a huffy toddler.  His nose was lifted high, giving him a haughty air.

" C'mon then, we'd best be off, " Annabel said to Jack.

Silence.

" Hellooo? Anybody home?"She sang.

He said nothing, but flounced from his chair and hurried out of the coffee shop without so much as a glance towards me. Annabel shook her head and smiled, saying goodbye.  As she strolled away,  I ran after her.

"Annabel? "

She turned around and tilted her head to the side.  No, Rudi.  Don't.  But if you're going to die, you should die happily.  No...

I leaned it and brushed my lips against hers. Her lips were so soft and smooth and...beautiful.

Her eyebrows shot up her head in shock and her cheeks flushed. She gestured awkwardly towards the door and hurried out,  watching her feet.

It's official.  I was the Traitor.
