Jack's P.O.V

It was one o'clock in the morning. I was sitting in my armchair, the standing lamp beside me providing the only light in the house.  Or so I thought.  I couldn't sleep, knowing that Annabel was out there somewhere.  So, I decided that if I couldn't sleep, then I wouldn't.

At that moment,  the living room door opened slowly and I jumped up from the chair.

Annabel...

I sighed as Lucy entered.

" Jack? Why are you still up?" She asked,  guarding her eyes from the light.

" I...I..."

She looked deep into my eyes and I realised how beautiful she was. Her auburn hair fell around her shoulders, framing her face.  She had prominent,  sharp cheekbones and thin, rosy lips. Her eyes were a dazzling hazel, capturing my attention and enchanting me. Her figure was slight and small, her limbs slender and elegant.

I made my way towards her and she frowned, creating dimples in between her eyebrows.

" Jack...I..."

She faltered as I stood in front of her,  barely an inch apart.  She stood,  frozen still. We stared into each other's eyes,  before I tilted my head to the side and brushed my lips tentatively against hers.  At first, she didn't react.  I slid my arms around her waist and kissed her again; this time fiercely.

Suddenly,  I gasped as her palms collided with my chest.  I stumbled backwards and fell against the leather armchair.

" You make me sick, " She spat,  her beautiful features crumpled into a reflection of pure anger and disgust.

I opened my mouth to reply, when I felt a vibration against my leg.   I pulled my mobile out.  The screen had lit up,  reading:

        New Message from
                  Annabel

Desperately relieved,  I tapped Read with my broad finger.

From Annabel:

I'm sorry. I'm okay.  I love you. X

I reread those last words over and over again.  I love you. I thought of what I had just done and rested my head in my hands.

Idiot.

I persuaded myself that I was just desperate.  I had never been attracted to Lucy before.  I just needed someone to comfort me, and Lucy's Annabel's sister.

" What's that? "

I looked up.  I'd forgotten that Lucy was still there.

" It's from Annabel. "

" Well? " She snapped.

" She says that she's sorry and that she's okay. "

Lucy folded her arms across her swollen abdomen and frowned.  "That's it? "

" Yes."

" Oh. Well.  At least she's safe," She noted.

" Listen,  Lucy. I don't know what came over me.  I think I just needed someone and you're Annabel's sister, so... I don't know. I just know that it meant nothing and that I'm just not myself, " I explained.

She sighed. " I know. Don't worry about it, Jack.  We can do crazy things when we're upset. "

And with that, she disappeared through the door.

We can do crazy things when we're upset. The way that she said that made me think that she was speaking from experience. Was she?  Or maybe I was just being paranoid.

At least she agreed that it was a mistake.

The most important thing was that Annabel was safe.  I could rest knowing that.  That night,  I fell into a blissful,  undisturbed sleep.

I had no clue as to what would face me the next day.

A/N: Hi ! Please bear with me, I need all of these little chapters because the details are very important!  Don't hate me for making Jack the guilty man!  SPOILER: Annabel will find out but she won't be angry with him!  Keep reading and remember what Lucy said- Was she speaking from experience?

That's for me to know and you to find out ;-)

Happy reading ♥
