Jack's P.O.V

I cleared the dishes away,  scraping Annabel's untouched plate.  I was sick of her bottling everything up. I was here for her; she didn't seem to understand that.  I wish-

" Jack! "

I turned to face the door,  where Annabel was leaning against the door frame,  clutching her phone so tight that her knuckles whitened dramatically.

" What's up?" I asked,  frowning.

“I've got a- look- a missed call from mum, " she told me,  shoving her mobile in front of eyes.

" You wha...?" I faltered as Annabel's screen came in to focus.

Missed Call from Mum.

" Rudi must've saved her then!" I exclaimed gleefully.

" I tried calling it back but it went to answer phone," she replied,  staring at the screen longingly.

" C'mon,  let's go to her house," I said, grinning enthusiastically.

She sighed.

" I don't think she'll be there. "

" You don't think- Why? " I asked,  obviously very confused.

" I don't know.  I've just got a feeling that everything isn't as it seems, " she replied, shrugging.

I draped my arm around her shoulders and nuzzled my head against hers.

" I think we should go and find out, " I murmured after a silence that you could slice with a knife.

She nodded without a word.

We climbed into my car and she sat,  staring blankly out of the windscreen.   When we arrived at Felicity's house,  Annabel finally shifted her gaze.

" It hasn't changed, " she observed, her eyes scrutinising the house.

"You sure? "

" Yes.  She's not in there. "

" So... Rudi didn't manage to save her then. "

" Nope. Now it's up to us."

I nodded encouragingly but scowled on the inside. I was sick of being involved with all of this.  I was sick of Annabel's life being endangered.

She made me drive home so that she could figure out her plan.  I'd never seen her so determined.  That scared me.

" We need those instructions Rudi had, " she told me as I flopped down onto the sofa, ready to watch 'Doctor Who'.

" Let's talk about it later,  hm?" I said, basically telling her to shut up indirectly.

Bad decision.

She turned to me,  a scowl spread across her face.

“ No, Jack!  I won't talk about it later, because personally,  I think that my mum's kidnap is just slightly more important than Doctor flamin' Who! "

I sighed. " I know, Annabel.  I just don't understand why you don't call the police.  Let them do their job!"

She shook her head before saying, " This is something that I have to do.  I don't know why. I just do."

Okay.  That annoyed me.

"So. Are you willing to sacrifice yourself for your mother? " I asked grimly.

" Well. I guess so. "

"You know what,  Annabel. I think you have to be the most selfish cow I've ever met, " I snapped furiously.

" You what? "

" You're saying that you're willing to give yourself up for your mum. Have you thought for a minute about how your death would affect people? " I asked coldly.

" Well-"

" No. You haven't.  What about me?  What about Madeleine?  What about Lucy?  What about your mum?  What about our future?" I said desperately,  tears prickling my eyes.

" Jack, I-"

" I don't want to hear it, Annabel. "
