Jack's P.O.V
I rolled my eyes as Annabel flounced from the room like a huffy teenager. She would be back.
I turned back to Lucy, who was now sobbing uncontrollably.
" Hey, it's okay, " I said softly.
She shook her head and rubbed her eyes. " I'm a hurricane, Jack. I bring destruction wherever I go."
" No, Lucy. Annabel and I are just going though a rough patch. We'll get through it. We always do," I convinced her.
Or was I convincing myself?
" Listen. Why don't you go to the spare bedroom upstairs? Have a lie down and just calm down a bit, yeah?" I suggested.
" Okay. Where is it?"
" Straight up the stairs, it's the first one on your left, " I explained.
She smiled gratefully and left the room, wiping her eyes continously.
Now to deal with Annabel.
I followed Lucy out of the door and wandered into the kitchen.
" Annabel? " I called.
No reply.
I searched everywhere: I looked in the bedrooms, the bathrooms; even the attic.
No sign.
I fumbled in my pocket for my mobile and dialled her number. It rang seven times, before going straight to answer phone. I left a voice mail and texted her.
Still nothing.
Ugh. She could be annoyingly stubborn when she wanted to be.
I kept ringing her, before accepting defeat. All I could do was wait. She would come back eventually.
Or so I thought.

I was sitting, watching Doctor Who, at half past ten. Still nothing from Annabel. Okay. I admit, I was worried by then. What if she'd done something? What if she'd gotten drunk? What if...?
" Jack?"
I looked up as Lucy appeared in the doorway.
" Hiya, you okay? " I smiled.
" Has Annabel come home yet?" She asked.
I sighed and shook my head.
"What are we going to do?"
I shrugged, knowing that if I opened my mouth to speak I would just break down in sobs.
The truth is that I was absolutely petrified. I couldn't live without Annabel. I loved her too much.
"C'mon, Jack. You can't just give up," Lucy scolded.
" I've tried everything. I don't know what else there is to do! " I replied, a hint of desperation in my voice.
Lucy perched herself on the arm of the chair and draped her arm around my shoulders.
" Why don't you go to bed? If it comes to us having to go and search for her, then we both need a good night's sleep, " she advised.
" I'm pretty sure I was just advising you to do a very similar thing just a few hours ago, " I chuckled half heartedly.
She smiled. " Goodnight."
And with that, she disappeared through the door.
I decided to take her advice and go to bed. But I couldn't sleep a wink. My body was unbelievably tired, but my mind was wide awake. I kept picturing her lying in a shop doorway, disgracefully drunk, not knowing where she was.
The image of her lying dead in front of Abbey crept into my head and I flinched. Annabel wouldn't be that stupid.
Would she?
