Lucy's P.O.V

" Morning, beautiful, " I greeted Annabel,  who was coated with ice packs and stretched out on the sofa.

" Hey, " She grunted,  her eyes glued to the television screen.

"What you watching? " I asked,  flopping down next to her.

"Glee."

I chuckled softly. So predictable.

I jumped as the door creaked,  Jack wandering into the room.  He was carrying a large bag of frozen peas.

" You scared me, " I told him,  holding my hand against my heart.

"Hurtful, " He whined,  jutting out his bottom lip.

I stuck my tongue out at him and laughed.

" How are you,  gorgeous?" Jack asked Annabel,  kissing her forehead lightly.

A smile flickered across her face. "I'm on the mend. "

He nodded, leaning against the arm of the sofa. It gave a groan under his weight.

"Hey, fatso. The sofa says that you're too heavy, " I teased,  grinning.

He rolled his eyes at me,  before turning his attention towards the television. His forehead wrinkled as he frowned.

" What are you watching? " He exclaimed,  as Amber Riley launched into chorus and verse of 'Hell to the No'.

" Glee."

He shook his head,  tsking with disgust, causing Annabel to snap her head in his direction.

" Something to say?" She challenged,  slapping his bicep playfully.

" Time to leave, " He announced,  before slipping from the room with haste.

She laughed,  before looking back towards Glee, where Chris Colfer and Darren Kriss were singing 'Candles' in angelic voices.

I smiled to myself,  before following Jack out of the room.

I closed the door behind me quietly,  leaning against it.  I let out a sigh and pulled my phone from my pocket. I dialled Brodie's number and took a deep breath. I released it slowly,  placing my phone against my ear.

" Hello? "

" Brodie?"

"'Tis moi."

"It's Lucy. "

"Of course it is."

" I need you to come over. "

A sigh. " Fine."

"I'll text you the address.  Come over ASAP. "

I didn't wait for a reply,  hanging up hurriedly. I texted him our address, my heart pounding against my ribs. Part of me was excited- like a child on an icy Christmas morning- , the other terrified of the unknown.

Be there in 10. X

I bit my lip as his reply illuminated my phone screen.  I groaned inwardly as the metallic taste of blood touched my tongue.  I had to stop biting my lip.

" Lucy! "

I hurried into the living room,  where Annabel was fiddling with the remote control,  her eyebrows furrowed in deep concentration.

"You called,  my lady? "

" Have you heard anything from mum? " She asked,  dropping the remote in frustration.  It clattered to the floor,  causing her to flinch.

" Well,  the hospital said they'd ring when they'd been to check on her, since she hasn't answered our calls, " I explained,  leaning my aching back against the door frame.

She groaned. " Will you go and check on her? "

I raked my fingers through my matted hair,  sighing in defeat.  " I'll ask Jack to go," I promised, "Brodie's coming round. "

Her head snapped towards me, her thin eyebrow cocked.

" What? " I said, resting my hands on my swollen abdomen.

" He's coming here? "

" Yes," I confirmed,  "But I need to sit down because my back is bloomin' killing me. "

I didn't wait for her to answer,  before shuffling out of the room.  I made my way to the kitchen,  just as the doorbell rang,  echoing off the walls.  I cursed under my breath.

I plastered on a fake smile and opened the door.  I was met with Brodie's bored expression.

" Hi."

" Hi. Come in."

He followed me inside,  kicking his shoes off as he entered.  I shook my head discreetly, before lowering myself onto seat at the kitchen table. I winced as a pain shot up my spine.

" You okay? " He asked,  slumping down opposite me.

" It's just my back," I clarified.

He nodded in understanding,  before sighing.  "So..."

"D'you want a coffee before we get all serious?" I asked him.

" Yeah, whatever, " He shrugged.

I started to move from the chair,  my back protesting furiously.

" You sit down, " He ordered, "I'll get it."

I smiled appreciatively,  rubbing my aching back tentatively.  Brodie switched on the kettle with one swift motion,  before turning to face me. He pushed his floppy, dirty-blonde hair from his green eyes,  which sparkled like emeralds every time the sun hit them.

"How's our little munchkin doin'?" He asked, a smile playing at the corners of his mouth.

"He's behaving, " I replied.

" He?"

I nodded.  " I had a scan the other day.  They told me that our baby is a boy. "

A grin stretched across Brodie's perfect features. I found it to be strongly contagious.

"Did you want a boy? " I ventured.

He began to stir the coffee in the mugs, but I couldn't help but notice that his gaze was elsewhere.

" Brodie? "

He snapped out of his trance, clearing his throat awkwardly.  He carried the mugs over to the table,  placing one in front for me.  He was avoiding my gaze.

" What's up?" I asked concernedly.

"I have something to tell you, " He announced,  ignoring my question.

" Okay..."

"It was Abbey."

I frowned.  How did he know about Abbey?

" What are you talking about? "

He ran a trembling hand through his tousled hair.

" Abbey Malone contacted me. She found out where you were at university and who you were staying with.  She gave me an offer.  She said that she would give me one thing;  anything that I desire.  On the condition that I made you pregnant.  It was her back-up, in case she couldn't kill your sister.  She needed to leave her mark, and she knew that no nineteen-year-old in the middle of university would want a baby.  It would ruin everything for you and have a big impact on your whole family,  especially Annabel.

"So she told me to convince Mel to have a big birthday party,  with booze, loud music,  the lot. She told me to get you pregnant. So I did," He finished, taking a sip of his coffee.

I couldn't quite believe it.  I was stunned.

"I'll understand if you hate me," He told me.

"The only person I hate it Abbey Malone, " I assured him.  "Can I ask what she gave you in return? "

He nodded, intertwining his fingers.  " The thing that I wanted most in the world was a family.  I wanted to be a father. "
