I sat at my desk, looking out the window, my head in my hand. I had a pencil in my right hand and I flipped it around, making sure it didn't hit the desk. The sound of chatter and laughter filled the room, the teacher being silent at his desk as the students did whatever hey wanted. After all, how's gonna teach on the last day of school? I looked around and saw students playing games with paper and on their phones, a few in the back having earphones in. I gave a small smile, they were just enjoying themselves on this nice Friday.
"What are you up to for the Summer?" Robert, the student who sits next to me asked, his head leaning up against the wall, one of the strings to his hoodie in his mouth, chewing on it.
"Don't know yet," I said, "You?"
"Drugs," he said and smiled, "Lots of them."
I raised my eyebrows and smiled. "Have fun with that."
"Will do, you have fun yourself too," he said
I didn't have friends, I was the middle student at school. No one hated or liked me, I wasn't in anyone's way of bullying and I didn't get mixed in with the drama. I was a student that knew everyone and I was nice to them, them giving back the niceness. I preferred it that way actually. I didn't want to be popular nor did I want to settle with the geeks, I had my own style and way of things that both parties talked to me, they actually enjoyed me being around. It was just the way it was, and I didn't fight it.
"Okay, class," the English teacher, Mr. Mayor said, standing up from his desk and walking around it.
Most of the students got quiet while I few finished off their sentence to their friends before turning around and facing Mr. Mayor
"We have five minutes, just wanted to say that I enjoyed every one of you in my class and I hope I get you next year in English Theater, I know you guys will go far," he said as a few students rolled their eyes. "Have a great Summer, be safe and have fun. You guys may leave early."
"Fuck yea!" A student stood up, grabbed his jacket. He ran to the door and smacked the top before he was out the door.
His friends followed him that way, but mostly the kids who didn't want to stay any longer rushed out first. I was one of the last ones to get my stuff and leave, I didn't want to be mixed with a crowd of broken bones trying to leave the classroom.
"Candy, have a good Summer," Mr. Mayor said, getting back behind his desk
"You too," I said and walked out, seeing the hallways filled with students.
I made my way through the crowd that was by the door and went to my locker, putting the code in and opening it, grabbing my stuff and putting it in my backpack.
"Was up, pretty lady?" Alex said, leaning his arm up against the locker, giving me a smirking face.
Alex "No Name" is what everyone called him, but no one knew his actual name. He would always say a different name every day throughout the year and no one cared, they thought it was funny. He is always like this, flirting with everything that moves and being flirty with everyone. I didn't mind really, he was always nice to me and never pulled anything, even though I have heard that's what he does. There was a lot of rumors throughout the year that he's really into one night stands and even gotten a girl pregnant once, but that wasn't confirmed because the girl didn't come to school either.
"Nothing really," I said with a smile on my face, grabbing a notebook and putting it into my bag. His flirting was pretty bad that it made me laugh every time he used it on me.
His friend, Austin Mahone, comes up and pats his shoulder, them laughing over something. Austin then stops laughing and looks at me with those sharp brown eyes.
"Hey, Candy," he said
"Hey, Austin," I said, closing my backpack up and putting it on my back.
Austin and Alex are close friends, I'm not really sure about how they met as I do with everyone else, somehow. I met them on the first day of school for us three years ago. They are probably one of the few popular people that are nice and actually talk more to me than "Hey" and "Hi". I heard that they have been friends since middle school, along with Robert and two more boys named Tyler and Zach. I don't know Zach that much and Tyler is pretty nice, has helped me out with homework a few times.
"What you up to?" Austin asked, stepping close to me, his hands behind his back.
"About to head home," I said as the final bell rang.
Cheers from around the hallway began as the doors open, students fleeing, yelling outside about how happy they are to be finally out of school or the seniors that graduate tomorrow, them not wanting to wake up around eight to go to the ceremony at ten in the morning. Pretty much the hallway is empty by the time Austin talks back.
"Aren't we all," he said, "Do you mind if I ask you a question."
"Sure," I said.
Alex comes up and pats Austin on the shoulder, Austin nods at him in return as Alex heads towards the doors and leaves, cheering as he exits. I can see through the window that he's meeting up with Robert and Tyler.
"I was wondering if I can come over your house," he said, looking down at first, then at me.
I'm not gonna lie, I was a little taken back by it, "You're not trying to fuck me, are you?"
"No," he said and smiles, "No, I swear, I just...I need someone to talk to about shit that's been going recently at home and...I feel like your the person I can come to."
I nodded "Does your group know?"
He looked behind him to see his friend group, then he looked back at me, biting his lip as he shook his head.
"I don't see a problem with it," I said, pulling my car keys out of my pocket, "My parents are gone away, we'll have the house to ourselves."
"Thank you," he said, "I swear I won't pull anything on you."
I walked passed him and looked at him, walking a little bit backward, "You know, you keep bringing it up, maybe you are?"
He smiled and turned his whole body towards me, "Than I'll stop."
I smiled and walked out the door, "See ya."
"See you," he replied
I walked down the steps and towards my car. Students along the way telling me goodbye and have a great Summer, me returning the favor. I smile to myself knowing that I'll be stuck at home, I'll get to watch movies and relax, recharge my social skills. I got to the driver's door and unlocked the car, opening the door and taking off my backpack, but I could feel someone's eye piercing into my skin. I quickly looked up and saw groups of friends talking to each other, no one even looking my way. I then turned to the right of me and see Austin's group. They seemed normal until I caught Alex's eyes. His brown eyes were turning...red? He stared me down, I swore it was the sunlight that changed his eye color but, the red in his eyes was brighter than anything I have ever seen. I then started to feel my own eyes starting to hurt in the back of my head. I tried to look away but I somehow couldn't, it was like a force was holding me to his gaze. How is this even happening? I then feel relief as Alex's eyes looked away to Tyler, who tapped him on the shoulder. Alex then looked back at me, Tyler, Robert, and Zach following his gaze.
Tyler's face got confused like he didn't know who I was for a moment, and when he did, he said something to them, making them all get in Alex's car, him in the backseat. They slowly drove off as I just stood there and watched them. I swore when I looked at Alex as they were passing by, his eyes were brow again. I just stood there for a moment and wondered if the heat had gotten to me. I put my bag in the car and sat down, closing the door behind me and placing my hands on the wheel, my mind still processing. I reached over opened my backpacks small pocket and pulled out my medicine bottle. I opened it and poured two tablets in my hand and swallowed them. The pain behind my eyes had decided to come back and I had a long drive back to my house. I don't think it was fake, but if it wasn't, what really was it?
