I didn't realize that I had fallen asleep. The last thing that I remembered was my mind fighting a thousand thoughts from coming to get me worried. I lifted up my head from my arm that was laying on the arm on the couch and yawned. I opened my eyes to see Austin, sitting on the other side of the glass table, staring at me. I looked away quickly and lifted up my legs, putting them underneath me. I looked back at him to still see him staring at me. My eyes then went to his bloody hand, but it looked like nothing happened to it; no marks or scars, it wasn't even wrapped up. I was about to turn my head to look at the kitchen floor but I stopped midway.
"Is your friends...One too?" I suddenly asked
"You mean vampires?" he asked, "It won't hurt you if you say the word, I swear."
I just looked down and bit my lip again, but when I heard him take in a big breath of air, I looked back up at him.
"Yea...They are," he replied
"Same amount as you?"
He nodded, "Some of them changed a few days before and after me."
"Changed?" I asked, "It's like your taking your life out of a book."
He sighed and just looked at me.
"Sorry," I said, after a moment, "What does it feel like to change?"
"Is not painful, as movies make it out to be." he said, "It happens quick, you don't even know that it happened until you get the side effects."
"As in?" I asked
"Cold sweats, gaining strength, eyes changing color--" he said, stopping and thinking, then continued, "Other stuff I can't remember."
I nodded and looked down, looking at the pants on my thighs as silence filled the room.
"Do you know if you look at someone for about seven seconds it either means you want to kill them or fuck them, " Austin said
I looked back up at him, giving him a confusing facial expression. He looked and swallowed really hard.
"Sorry, I'm trying to make light of the situation," he said, folding his hands in front of him and set his hands in his lap.
I just nodded and stood up a moment later, grabbing my jacket that was hanging up on the coatrack, putting it on.
"Where are you going?" he asked
"Out," I said, grabbing my keys, "I need to clear my head."
Austin stood up and watched me open the door.
"I'll be back before you know it," I said and walked out, closing the door behind me.
**********/**********
I ended up not taking my car as I planned to, I thought walking would be better to help me think things out. I started to think about the day I met Austin and Alex, how seemingly nice they were to me, they had their own attention and words with me. It did put me off the first few days but I got used to it. Alex always flirted with everyone, both parties of the school, he liked to flirt a lot with boys, making them uncomfortable, but they didn't fight Alex or be mean, hell, some of the boys liked it. But Austin, he had special words just for me, and he didn't use those words for anyone else. He did have a thing for staring, not gonna lie, at first it was like all he wanted to see was me from across the room or sat on the opposite side of the table a few tables away at lunch. He learned to tone it down when I started to head to the library during lunch to study. I felt like Austin had made ways to come and see me, even if it was for a second, like passing down the hallway. Now that I think about it, maybe he was turning into a stalker and I didn't see it then.
I made it to the nearest coffee shop and walked inside. The temperature inside was way better than outside, for outside was a little chilly while the inside was warm and gave you a scene of coziness. I walked to the ordering counter and gave my order. The place wasn't as busy as it always was, normally on a day like this, the workers would be always rushing for orders or working the drive-through like crazy. I guess because it's Summer everyone is on vacation and goes someplace else, but even when I'm here for the Summer, it's still a busy place. I thank the worker as he gave me my coffee and I sat down at an empty table for two. I sipped my coffee as I looked out the window. I sat there for a few hours before I realized what time it was. The sun was already setting and a few more people were in the shop than before. I sighed and looked down at my hands, did I really want to go back to Austin? No, not really. I started to pick at my fingers as I heard the door open and close as someone sat in front of me.
I looked up to see Austin, hands folded on the table, him looking at me.
"You're taking this better than I thought," he said
"I don't think my mind has registered it yet," I said, looking back down at my fingers.
He nodded, "I was getting worried,"
"About?" I asked, looking back at him
"You seemed to be taking to long," he said, "I didn't want to rush but it was getting concerning."
"I'm grown enough Austin, I can take care of myself," I said, smiling small.
He gave a small closed smile back and looked away, first at the ground the side of the table, and then at the order counter. Austin froze as he looked at the man behind the counter, the same one who took my order hours before. I looked at the man and saw him staring at Austin, then took a quick look at me and looked away, pretending to clean the counter. Austin, without taking his eyes off him, got up and walked to my side, holding his hand out.
"We need to go," he said
I looked back at the man to see him still cleaning. I wanted to ask questions but I knew it was appropriate to ask at this time, so I just took his hand and got up. Now Austin and I were staring at the man until we walked to the door. We heard a growl come behind us as we looked, seeing the man growling at us. Other people too looked his way and then ours.
"Not here, Aries! You know you can't do this!" Austin said to the man.
The man slowly took off his hat, "I was so close with her, bestia, I had her!"
The man hunched over, his skin moving under the clothes. Some people freaked out and ran out the door, scared of what the man was doing, other's stood and sat there in aw, wondering what was about to happen. Austin got in front of me, protecting me with his arms out to his sides. The man's clothes stretched and fell off as his torso got bigger.
"Austin?" I asked as the man's face changed from a human to a face that looked like a wolf.
People screamed as the werewolf jumped up on the counter and growled louder this time. His feet were like wolf's, his hands looked like normally hands besides being hairy and having large claws at the end. He was now fully nude as he looked at me and started.
"Solum relinquatis eam!" Austin yelled
The creature jumped off the counter as he screamed, causing people outside to freak out as they walked by.
"What is that?" a woman shouted as she pointed.
"Hanc!" Aries yelled.
"Go," Austin said to me, keeping his eyes on Aries
"What?" I asked in confusion. How was he gonna fight this werewolf?
"Go!" he shouted as the wolf launched itself at us.
I did what I was told and ran out of the shop. I couldn't believe my eyes as I looked back and saw the wolf on Austin, him fighting back. Then in an insistent, they combined into a small ball of mist and disappeared. I stared in odd as they were no longer in the shop. I looked around and saw that other people saw too. Did Austin...Teleport?
"Did you see that?" the same women inside pointed and yelled at me.
I didn't answer, all I did was continue to run away as far as the shop as I could. Where did he go? And would he even come back?
