The next morning was still a dark grey, the rain had even become a ritual today. We had left the hotel about three hours ago, going on the back roads and have been on them ever since. The car ride was a bit different than yesterday; the silence was still there but not as bad, I thought I had gotten used to the silence he gave, the car's heat was a bit lower, making the car feel comfortable and toasty, just the right temperature to fall asleep to on a winter's night. I kept my eyes looking out the window, seeing the once green grass now brown and dying as we drove through the hills. A raindrop landed on the window, getting my attention as I followed it down with my eyes, seeing it fade away as it hit the start of the car. I turned my head towards Austin, seeing him focused on the road, one hand on the top of the wheel and the other was on his thigh, his long fingers filling the space of his skin. I looked back up at Austin to see him taking glances at me. I looked at the road in front of us, taking the view all in and then sighed.
"A lots on your mind," he said
"Is it that noticeable?" I asked
He gave another one of his small smiles.
"Do you mind if I ask you questions about yesterday?" I asked
His smile then disappeared as he kept his eyes on the road.
"I know you don't like talking about it, or shouldn't be talking to me about it, so you can choose what questions to not answer," I said, looking at him, "What other monsters are real?"
"Creatures?" he corrected me and I nodded "Whatever people made up."
"Like bigfoot?" I asked
He then chuckled, "Anything but bigfoot, he's just a myth."
"So creatures like?" I asked, stretching the question to get more out of him,
"Wendigos, dragons, fairies...werewolves like you saw yesterday," he answered, "Anything a child can think of."
"A child?"
"They have the most powerful imagination," he said
I quickly moved on, "Why are werewolves coming after me?" I asked
He took a moment to answer, "They know what you are,"
"A human? They want me because I'm human?" I asked
"They want what you are capable of," he said and looked at me before his eyes hit the road again.
I dug myself a bigger hole and I knew it right then and there, I wanted to ask what I was "capable" of, but I knew he wouldn't answer that question. I bit the inside of my cheek before continuing. "What language was that?"
"Latin," he said,
"And this is a normal language to speak within this mythical universe?" I asked
"You get to understand it as you become part of the universe, yes," he said looking at me again, his eyes a light purple as the other night.
I stopped right then and there. I don't know much, but I do know that when his eyes are purple, he's heated, and I sure didn't want them to get fired red. I turned my head out the window and saw that we were passing through an old burned down the town. Small houses and stores were broken and torn apart, weather and the fire slowly destroying them as they tried to survive.
"What happened to this place?" I asked, looking around as the road had disappeared, making us travel on gravel.
"World War Two happened," he said
I looked at him, "World War Two was 78 years ago."
"It got abandoned after World War Two, it was a fire spot for the war, it's not even on your map," he said
