Aaron came up to the room with me as I knocked on my hotel room door, hoping Cylak was still there. Cylak opened it with a smile, but it faded when he saw Aaron.
“Hey, Aaron…” He trailed as we walked inside. “What are you doing here?”
“Oh, I helped my sister pick out a wedding dress, that’s all.” Aaron replied as he sat down in a chair across from the bed.
“Oh, is that all?” Cylak didn’t sound impressed. “I would’ve thought you were sent by your parents to retrieve her.”
“You’re talking like I’m a possession.” I said, crossing my arms. “I don’t have a frickin owner.”
“Calia, I know.” Cylak soothed, sitting down on the bed. I did the same, and he wrapped his arms around me. “I’m just saying they sent him to come get you.”
“No, no, they didn’t. They don’t know where you two are.” He pointed to us. “You guys, that was really stupid.”
“Hey.” Cylak said to make him stop talking. “I’m not letting Calia marry someone she doesn’t love.” His arms tightened around me. “I’m not letting her live the fate she didn’t choose. I love her, and I'm not losing her.” He stated, sounding the most determined I've ever heard him.
I smiled at the comment. “Yeah.”
Aaron shook his head. “Okay, but if the wolves find you, they will take you back.”
Cylak and I tensed up almost in unison. That’s true.
“They already found her, Aaron.” Cylak informed, and he shot up.
“What? When, where? How?” Aaron shot the questions at us quickly.
“Yeah, at Ridgeland, two days ago.” I said, dipping my head. “Calvin showed up, and told everyone that we’re engaged.” That made them both give me an angry look.
“Okay, that I didn’t know.” Cylak growled angrily.
“Then how’d you get to Vegas?” Aaron looked really confused.
“There was a fight-”
“More like battle.” Cylak cut me off.
“-against Cylak and Calvin, in the cafeteria. Calvin almost transformed wolf, and I had fire in my hands-”
“You used your Magic in Earth!? Again!?” Aaron cut me off, and he was ticked off.
“-that I was using to attack Calvin, and there were only a couple humans there, just Nicole and Austin. Cylak, Michael and I were using our Magics to attack. Eventually, Michael covered him with a pile of ice.”
Aaron sat there for a second, speechless. He didn’t look mad, he just… sat there. His eyes moved from mine to the ring I was wearing.
“So, you two are really gonna do it, huh?” Aaron asked us. “You two are really gonna get married?”
Cylak and I exchanged a look. “Yes, Aaron. We really are.” Cylak spoke up.
Aaron shook his head again. “You know, Calia, Mom and Dad are gonna be really ticked off if you get married and they aren’t there.” Aaron pointed out.
“Yeah, I know, but I can’t really do anything about that.” I said, relaxing slightly. “I don’t want to be taken back.”
“I know, Calia.” Aaron replied, looking a little annoyed. “I know.”
“Good.” And now, I wanted to get off the subject. “The day’s still young. What stupid thing in Vegas can we do today?”
Cylak began to laugh, and Aaron stared at me, shocked. “Who likes slot machines?” Cylak asked, and I smiled. I played online slot machines, but never pressed my luck at a real one. “Come on.” Cylak said, getting up but intertwined my hand in his. “Let’s have fun.”
We headed down to a Casino, but I wasn’t sure what they did there. I was sure there would be slots, but when we entered, I thought it was the slot capital of the world. Which, I’m sure, it was. I wasn’t even sure if I was old enough to gamble.
“Hey, I’m gonna hit the poker table.” Cylak informed us as he untangled our hands. “Yell if you need help.”
“Help? With what?” I asked, but he was gone by then.
Aaron and I hit the slots. I pulled every single one, and there was a couple I actually made money on. I pulled those more and more, until I would win big. Hopefully, enough to get a car.
“Calia, look at this one!” Aaron called over to me, and I moved passed the crowd to find him. I found him standing in front of a big wheel, with one space that said ten grand. “You gotta try it.”
I laughed to myself. “Did mother nature help you out?” I asked as I noticed some vines tangled into the spinner.
“Maybe…” He trailed as he held all the receipts in his hand. “Oh, come on, Calia. Like you wouldn’t do it if you had the chance.”
“Fire doesn’t help me.” I pointed out, but his hands turned green and the vines untangled themselves. “And you’re using your Magic in Earth.”
He laughed. “Okay, maybe I’m a bit over the line.” Aaron admitted.
“Dude, you’re so far past the line you can’t see it.” I laughed, and then I saw Cylak, playing poker at a table. I walked over to him and stood behind him. In his hand, there were two Aces.
I rested my hands on his shoulder, and he moved his head to notice me. “Oh, hey.”
“Hey.” I smiled as I looked around the table. “Having fun?”
“Yeah yeah, it’s fun.” Cylak never changed his Poker face.
“Are you winning?” I asked, but he stared out over the table.
“Not now, Calia.” Cylak ordered, shooing me away.
“Okay, fine, I’m going to pull more slots.” I told him as I walked away. I met back over with Aaron, who was standing over by a slot, staring at something. “Hey Aaron, I’m ba-” And then he turned me around towards the slot. “What?”
“Calvin’s here.” Aaron whispered quickly, and I froze. “He’s walking around.”
“Damn it.” I growled, and I turned to look around. “Where is he?”
“I don’t know, but I just spotted him.” Aaron said, and I risked a glance behind me, and then, so did I.
And he looked ticked.
I heard people at Cylak’s Poker table yelling, and then Cylak taking the pot. He got up from the table and walked over to the exchange window, and traded the chips for the money. He stuck the receipts in his pocket and looked around, probably for us.
And he walked in the other direction.
“Come on, Calia.” Aaron whispered, jerking my wrist lightly. “We’re getting out of here before he sees us.”
“Not without Cy-” I protested, but Calvin was there, right in front of us, staring into his cold, furious eyes.
