Chapter 2 - A Dragon Rider?
I stood there shocked, of all the things I had expected I did not expect this. Many legends in the village told about dragon hunters that tracked down and killed every last dragon. But the legends were all proved wrong in a single second.
I stared at the dragon, no longer with surprise, but with awe. The dragon had really white scales, eyes a half circle, huge wings curved up to the sides, spikes from the top of its head to the end of its long, spiraling tail, it had a spike under its chin, and its claws were as long as my arm and much thicker.
When I was finally able to look away I observed the cavern. The ceiling was in the shape of a dome, and about seven stories high. The walls were smooth but had strange indentations. The indentations turned out to be strange designs. I had always paid attention to the legends, and recalled how the dragons had a special language that was long forgotten. I knew the designs were some type of language that I couldn't understand.
As I met the mesmerizing gaze again I heard a deep grumble that almost sounded like words. Then words formed in my mind as if they were my own thoughts, "I have been waiting a long time for you."
"You've been waiting for me?" I asked, doubting what I had heard in my mind.
"Yes, you are the only one that can carry on the dragon legends and understand their language." The strange voice inside my head said.
"But, the legends aren't still carrying on and I dont understand the designs on the cave wall."
"Those are the legends your kind have made up," the voice said angrily, "to understand the language you have to listen with your mind and heart not with your eyes or ears."
"So I'll be able to read these signs?"
"With practice you will."
I was trying to go over everything that the dragon had said, and was wondering if it had a name. There was an uncomfortable pause then the dragon said, "My name is very hard to say if you don't know the secret language, but the closest translation is Olena."
"That is a very pretty name, what does it mean?" I asked.
"Olena means bright scales," Olena said with a hint of pride.
"Well you certainly do deserve that name, your scales are the brightest, even in this darkness."

Olena's POV
I beamed with pride. "Maybe this child does know a little about getting on someones good side, but she's going to have to do much more for me to like her." I thought.
"One question." The child said interupting my thoughts.
"Yes," I said, "I'm surprized she doesn't have more," I thought.
"How can you talk in my head, its as if you can make thoughts in my head?" she asked.
I was surprized that she asked that question, every dragon and rider knew that their minds were hooked. You knew that you could send them a message to each other, even if you were half way across the world. "Maybe she didn't know that she was my rider, but couldnt she feel it in her blood? That is why she wasnt petrified whan she saw me, she can even make eye contact with me. Eye contact is very rare, maybe I have a very special rider." I kept my thoughts going until I heard the child.
"Um excuse me but you didn't answer my question."
"Wow, this child has spirit!" I thought. "All right your question was why my voice is in your head, I cannot tell you this answer, you must find it out on your own."

Civia's POV
"Great I ask one question and she can't even answer it. Maybe dragons are not as smart as the legends say." I thought.
"Be careful if you dont control your thoughts I will be able to hear them." Olena said with malice in her voice. "We dragons are much smarter than any of your legends could have possibly stated. If you knew anything about dragons I would not insult them." She said showing the many rows of razor sharp teeth in her mouth.
"I am sorry if I offended you, Olena, I did not realise what I was thinking before it happened." I said, but thought, "She should have stayed out of my head. And why am I getting in trouble for thinking?"
"I am not going to stay out of your head until you learn to keep me out of it on your own, I may teach you a few lessons but it is your choice. Now that I have heard you talk and think, I will be able to hear all of your thoughts until you keep me out of your head. Also you will be able to hear my thoughts if I allow you to hear them."
"So we are hooked in a way that allows us to hear each others thoughts?" I asked.
Olena said, "Yes, we can also communicate with our minds. We could have a silent conversation in our heads. Also if you were at your home and I was still here we could still communicate without any one knowing."
"Can we try it?" I asked intrigued with the idea of being able to communicate with a dragon at all times.
"Sure," I heard Olena say with my mind but, not my ears.
I was surprized by how clear the coice was, "So, how does this work," I thought.
"That will do." Olena said in my head.
"This is awesome, but what if I am thinking about something private and I don't want anyone to hear my thoughts," I was wondering.
"That will be saved for another time," Olena said with her voice. "Now it is time for you to be getting back home to your very worried mother, Lena, is it."
"Yes, but how am I going to get down these cliffs," I was worried about the very long way down to the rocky shore by the cliffs.
"You know," Olena said spreading her magnificent wings wide, "I dont have these wings for nothing."
"Wow am I really going to ride a dragon home." I thought excitedly.
"No, dear child, you would get killed by my spikes, but I am willing to give you a lift to a spot three miles away from your village," Olena said slightly laughing at my thoughts.
After Olena said I wasn't going to get to ride her, I felt really dissapointed, but I didn't want to die so I would not mind getting carried most of the way home.
"Good choice child," Olena said.
"Oh, by the way you can call me Civia, not child."
