Chapter 16 - That'll be the day
"Olena. I'm so sorry for the way I've been acting. I need you. Please help me."
"What's wrong, child?"
"I'm facing a lion and I don't know how I can get out of this alive."
"You need to attack it's mind."
"What? How can I attack it's mind. The only mind I've ever attacked was Tyler's and that had been easy. Wouldn't this lion have a tougher mind to break?"
"Yes, it is tougher, in a way. Don't worry, you can do it, I know you can. I will help you in any way I can, you just have to try."
"Okay, I'll try. How should I start?"
"You need to concentrate. It won't be as easy as when you attacked Tyler because you were angry then. It is never good to attack from anger. You need to concentrate on getting into the lion's mind."
"Civia! You need to back up slowly." I heard Tyler say from farther back.
I ignored him and started concentrating. I pictured myself getting into the lion's mind. The more I concentrated the more the lion backed up. I put a full on assault to his mind and he turned and ran like a scared dog.
Everything started to go black around the edges of my eyesight.
"Civia!"
I vagely heard someone calling for me but I couldn't make sense of anything anymore. My world tipped then everything went black.
*************
Tyler's POV
"Civia!"
I ran over to her and caught her just before she hit the ground.
"Civia! Are you alright?" I asked but she seemed to have fainted.
I looked around for any sight of the lion that was just in front of Civia a moment ago. There was no sign of a lion, or any other animal for that matter. That is really strange.
I picked Civia up and carried her bridal style. As we neared the camp everyone was running around with the various tasks they had that no one noticed when we entered the camp.
"Eren!" I called through all the chaos. "Where are you?"
I headed in the direction of Civia's tent, intent on setting her down then finding Eren and telling him what happened. Though I don't know what I'm going to say to him. I don't know what happened myself. One moment Civia went off to wash her clothing in the river, a lion came, something must of happened because the lion just ran off like a scared dog, then Civia fainted.
Well, there goes all my plans. I thought just as Eren walked up to me.
"What happened?" He asked.
"She was washing her clothing and saw a lion."
"A lion!" He was very angry, as if it was my fault there was a lion.
"Yes, though I don't know what happened after she caught sight of it."
"What do you mean?" Now he seemed confused.
"She didn't move. She just looked at the lion, then the lion turned around and ran."
"It turned around and ran?" He asked disblieving.
"Yes. As much as it doesn't seem possible it happened. The part that is even more serious is that as soon as the lion was gone Civia fainted."
"We need answers and only one person can give us them."
"I know, but, first she needs to rest."
"She does not need to rest. I will tell you what she needs."
"Since your so good at doing that? What about the time where you wouldn't even talk to her because you were no longer 'worthy'. And what about when she left the camp and started walking alone in the jungle. Did you decide that she needed to be alone, that she didn't need a father to care for her? She needs to rest. It's already clear that she isn't going to talk right now, she has fainted for crying out loud."
I pushed past him and continued on my way to her tent.
I'm just really glad that Civia wasn't awake to witness how horrible Eren still is. She still hopes that someday he will come back and be the father she always thought he was. I can see it in the way she looks at him. Just under the cover of hate there is a faint hope and any hope she has I don't want her to lose. I just hope that I will be able to give her some more hope of a better life. Somehow I've got to earn her dragon's trust. I know she still cares about her even though she pretends she doesn't.
"Somehow I will make you free." I whispered to her.
After passing a few more tents I came apon her tent.
"Open the flap." I orderd the guard in front of the tent. I can't believe he would have men stand guard even though she wasn't even here.
As soon as the flap was out of the way I laid her down on the bed. She looked so peaceful, I hope she's okay. As soon as she wakes up I need to have answers. Too many weird things have been happening since that dragon has left and too many questions are coming up that need to be answered.
I heard someone come in the tent and I turned to face them, ready to send them away. I scowled. "What are you doing in here, Eren?"
"She's my daughter, I have a right to make sure she's okay."
"Oh, so now you want to make sure she's okay? I really don't get you. One moment you're more worried about the chance that Civia could have gotten hurt from that lion, then you're more worried about getting answers than your daughters well being, then you come in here to make sure she's okay. How can you do that?"
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"Of course you don't. You're just the worse father there ever was."
"Why do you care? She's not your sister, wife, or even friend. She hates you just as much as she hates me."
"No. She has a raw hatred for you. You weren't there for her when she most needed you. She would rather walk next to me than next to you. She'd rather talk to me than to you. She would even leave you and come with me." The last part was a lie, but I wanted to make him understand how much she truly hated him. He doesn't know about that little hope she holds within herself but, if he knew about it then he could make everything worse.
"That's...."
He was cut off by a groan from Civia.
"Civia, are you okay?" I asked, taking her hand.
She groaned again and began opening her eyes. "Where am I?"
"You're inside your tent."
"I don't have a tent. Where's my mom?" Oh, my, gosh. She must have lost her memory of all the horrible events that have recently happened to her. Maybe she won't remember ever finding her dragon and choose to live with me. All she knew of me before was that I was one of her suitors.
"She'll be here soon. Go back to sleep." Her eyelids slowly closed and she drifted into a peaceful sleep.
I took a step back and looked at Eren. "I think you better leave. Until she has her memory back she shouldn't see you. It might be too much of a shock on her and she is not in a good condition for any type of shock."
He nodded and left without another word. Civia losing her memory could be the best thing that's ever happened to her. She will be able to live a peaceful life without everything that she's been forced to go through.
I looked back at her. She's so beautiful. It would be a miracle if she would accept me as her suitor and let me court her. Maybe one day she will truly love me. That'll be the day.
