Chapter 21 - Do you want your memories back?

"Where can I find Eren's tent?" I asked one of the men I happened to be passing.

"Um, I haven't been given clearance to say." He hurried off.

Why can't anyone tell me anything?

"I guess I'll have to find it on my own." I muttered to myself.

"What do you think you are doing?" A deep voice asked behind me.

"What is with you men? You always ask me what I think I'm doing. Don't you think I know exactly what...?” I stopped short as I caught sight of who I was talking to.

"Daddy? Is that really you?" The tears were at the edge of my eyes and I blinked rapidly to keep them at bay.

"It's really me, sweetheart." His voice had gone softer. "What are you looking for?" He asked as if he already knew the answer.

"I've been looking for you. Someone told me you were here and I wanted to see you, but if you were here all along why didn't you come to see me?

"You don't know how bad I really wanted to. Tyler had taken over the camp and ordered me to stay away. I got as close as I dared to, but only when you were alone."

"You were the shadow. You were the one there when I woke up and Tyler was still asleep. Why didn't you let me see you, he couldn't have done anything to you, I wouldn't have allowed it."

He gave a sad smile. "He wouldn't dare to lay a hand on me, but he would hurt me by hurting the ones I love."

"You mean me?" I asked, bewildered. Tyler would never hurt me, would he?

He gave a slight nod.

"Let’s talk in my tent." He motioned for me to follow him.

Finally getting what I have been looking for, I followed him through an endless row of tents until we arrived at a tent that was fancier than all the rest, but not by much.

Eren moved the flap out of the way and motioned for me to go inside. Walking in the tent I had to wait a few seconds for my eyes to adjust.

Once my eyes were adjusted I looked around the tent and realized that it was even less furnished than my tent, which wasn't much at all.

"Were you not the leader of the camp?" I asked. I would've thought that the leader would have more stuff than the lower officers.

My father chuckled behind me. "If you are referring as to why I have less stuff than anyone else does it is because when you live in a moving camp less is always more."

"I see." I walked forward and just stood by one of the tent walls, feeling very awkward.

My father walked in and stood in the middle of the tent. "Would you like to sit down?" He asked as he took a seat on the tent floor.

"Um, sure." I sat down where I was. For some reason I felt like I couldn't trust him, but why wouldn't I be able to trust my own father?

Yes, he had been gone for a long time, which during that time I thought he was dead, but now he is back. So what is this strange feeling I have?

"What did you want to talk to me about?" My father asked, taking me away from my thoughts, but the feeling remained.

"How did you know I wanted to talk to you?"

My father smiled at that. "You’re always on the defensive, even when with me. Exactly how I taught you." He chuckled, but looked a little hurt.

"I'm sorry dad, I am just so confused." He seemed to cheer up when I called him dad. Trying to ignore this, I went on. "I wake up in this camp not knowing where I am or how I even got here.”
