Burr's POV:
When the trio returned home, they were immediately greeted by an excited Alex. In all honesty, Aaron was just happy because now he can be left alone and get away from the lovey-doveyness that is JeffMads. They were each carrying a couple of bags filled with more eloquent clothes for their stay. Alex quickly informed them they will be leaving that night and Thomas got even more excited. Truly Thomas is a good person, but rather than bottling emotions up or finding release through something, he prefers taking it out on Alex. So, maybe if Thomas stays as happy as he is right now, Alex can catch a break.

"Get packing boys! We leave TONIGHT!" Cool cool.

Aaron isn't an idiot by any means. He knows Thomas is trying to use him to get closer to the government and its inner workings. He doesn't care, he realizes Thomas just wants to be with his love and with the way things are right now, that is very unlikely. He respects that, after all, he's no stranger to love.

He met this lovely lady named Theodosia at the ball. Unfortunately, she works under Prince George as his ambassador or something. However the two were able to sneak away from their groups for a while and talk. So if they somehow do manage to get into the government without using Burr, then they could get closer. Which, now that he knows Alex is engaged to John, it should work. However he has to wait until those are ready to reveal it, which according to Alex is going to be a while. But Theo's worth the wait.

<Time Skip to the castle: are fireworks supposed to continue flaming after they went off? No? Oh. Spruce.>

John's POV:
The SDR Household showed up around 8:00 PM which kinda ruined his new year vibe but he could deal with it 'cause it's the first time he could see Alex without one of them having to be secretive or sneak out. Besides John doesn't actually have a problem with them: Aaron and James are cool. Thomas is...alright, he just wished the dude would treat Alex better. Meh. It's New Year's Eve and he is not going to let it be ruined by depressing thoughts.

Everyone greeted each other, father taking a few pictures to share with the news, and then split up. Father and Thomas went to dad's East Wing to discuss what he assumes is business with James following obviously to make sure Thomas didn't do anything stupid. It's King Henry remember? It's not exactly like Madison could say he was following because he wanted to be with his boyfriend on New Year's.

But once again John really didn't care 'cause that let the rest of them go to their West Wing Commons. Hey, just because they live right next to (almost in) New York, that doesn't mean they're going out into the freezing cold 14°F (-11°C) just to watch a ball fall down a giant stick. So, yeah they gathered and got comfy in front of the TV.

During their wait, they played games like they were at a pubescent girls' sleepover which, let's be honest, they kinda were. Once they got tired of playing Would You Rather, they started to simply ask each other questions.

"So...John. Alex told James and I about your 'special relationship'."

"He...did?" That doesn't sound like Alex at all...

"HE FORCED ME!!" Oh.

"It's alright. It's cool. We don't mind. We were actually pretty suspicious but Madison was the one to guess that it was you. It's surprisingly adorable." Alex who's sitting next to John, hid his face in John's long sleeved pajamas shirt. John looked down lovingly at his precious kitten, just as red but silently beaming. "See what I mean?" Fine, if he wants to play that game, lez go.

"Well, I heard you got a special someone on the side, Burr?"

"Yeah, s-so?" Someone's nervous.

"OHHHHHHH!" And Eliza shall take it from here. "Who is she...or he...or they, you know what I mean!? How much do you like them? Is it just like a fling or a full on crush where your stomach is filled with butterflies and you get all jittery and you DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO CAUSE YOU'VE NEVER FELT ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE AND YOU'RE ALL CONFUSED AND HELPLESS BUT ITS ALSO THE BEST FEELING YOU'VE EVER FELT AND YOU NEver want it to go...away...and..." Eliza had to stop to catch her breath at this point but they all still understood what she was asking.

"Uh...the latter feeling."

"WILL YOU PEOPLE PLEASE SHUT THE FUCK UP?! I WOULD LIKE TO ENJOY MY FIRST NEW YEARS IN AMERICA BY WATCHING THE BALL I'VE HEARD SO MANY OF YOUR PEOPLE BRAGG ABOUT DROP FOR THE FIRST TIME OKAY?!" He could understand how Lafayette was feeling, it's a pretty notable tradition. But Americans don't brag about their country and stuff that much, right?

"Yeah...I agree with Laf, I haven't seen the ball drop since George died...Thomas doesn't exactly let me watch much television..." No pressure, John. Just have to make your fiancée's first New Year's Eve in two years be perfect.

Is he nervous?

It's John fucking Laurens, he can do literally anything.

So no, he's not nervous.

What he is, is extremely happy that he gets to share this special moment with Alex in his life. But John wants to make it extra special.

"Guys, shhh. The countdown's starting-" Hercules brings everyone's attention to the flat screen in front of them. John could swear he saw actual stars in Alex's and Lafayette's eyes.

As per tradition, everyone joined in the countdown along with the numbers on the Times Square big screen.
"TEN!" "DIX!"

"NINE!" "NEUF!"

"EIGHT!" "HUIT!"

"SEVEN!" "SEPT!"

"SIX!" "SIX!"

"FIVE!" "CINQ!"

"FOUR!" "QUATRE!"

"THREE!" "TROIS!"

"TWO!" "DEUX!"

"ONE!" "UN!"

"HAPPY NEW YEAR!"

The ball reached the base and the TV crowd cheered as confetti is spread over the square. Along with all the TV couples, Hercules and John seemed to have the same idea as to capture their lovers' lips in a passionate kiss. A tradition John thought he would never be able to participate in, and even if so would never enjoy. But at that moment in time, he forgot all his problems and all he could think about was how happy Alex made him and his heart.

Apparently he was too carefree when it came to his problems because he forgot their one other tradition. "HAPPY NEW YEAR KIDS—John...what...what THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?!" Oh shit.

AN: Hahahaha, I left y'all on a cliffhanger, ON NEW YEARS! I'm so evil. Anyway, I wrote a little before and posted right when it hit midnight for me, however I go by Mountain Standard Time and I realize most of my followers live outside the US and are ahead of my time zone. It's most likely the next day where most of y'all live but y'all'll just have to deal with it since North and South America is basically a day behind everyone else. Time zones are freakin weird but you think the West side is bad, can you imagine Hawaii? Jeezus. Welp, HAPPY NEW YEARS EVERYONE!
