scars behind the dandelions
jungkook didn't want to play house today.
which is a shame, really.
i liked playing house with him.
ever since the first day i met jungkook,
he's been wearing long sleeves.
big maroon coats,
ivory hoodies,
dandelion sweaters.
and every time,
he would hide his hands in the sleeves.
today, we were playing with the action figures.
jungkook was holding the pretty barbie in his hand.
and i wondered,
what was under those sleeves.
so i grabbed his hand,
and pulled up the sleeve.
jungkook gasped loudly,
hitting my hand.
what i saw was bad.
jungkook's hands were all bruised up.
his knuckles were painted purple,
along with newly blossoming crimson injuries.
and his arms were covered with scars,
scars lining up and down, up and down.
some were covered in bandaids,
some looked new.
and i asked him,
i asked him why.
i asked him how.
and he smiled.
jungkook smiles when he's hurting.
he smiled a huge smile, and said,
"because i'm different."
