Feels like I've known you my whole life
I can see right through your lies
I don't know where we're going
But I'd like to be by your side
If you could tell me how you're feeling
Maybe we'd get through this undefeated
Holding on for so long

A week later:

"nico, we used to do these warm ups all the time," hazel said. "you refuse to practice at practice so you have to do it here, alone. it's been a week and you haven't said anything at club."

"yep, i guess i have to drop out," i said. "too bad."

hazel raised her finger like a mother telling her disobedient kid to sit down in church. "nico, i hate you. what's the big deal?"

"drama club is stupid, i mean... what's the point?"

"are you thick? you make new friends. you express all emotions through singing it out loud," she said, "i could go on for hours. nico, you love to sing and you love to act and you love to dance. c'mon, drama club is perfect."

    "hazel..."

"i think you should do it," i heard Bianca's voice whisper through the cracked door. "it'd be cool to have a famous brother and sister."

"Bianca, not you, too," i pleaded. it was horrible with Bianca, she always got me to crack. i did everything she asked like i were her servant.

"please nico? you can just sing and then people will be like-" she jumped up on my bed and jumped and jumped and then fell on her butt and finished, "wow!"

"you are silly," i laughed. "okay. i will."

"and i'll know because i'm going to be at your play and you better have a role," Bianca scoffed and skipped out of my room.

hazel turned back to me with a smile stretched across her face. "you can't let her down."

"i'll try not too," i said, truthfully, only i was cringing at it all, the idea of auditioning, anything.

"what would your reaction be if i told you i might be interested in crushing on Will Solace," hazel giggled.

my eyes widened at his name. at first i felt jealousy and then just pure hatred. i eyed her. "are you thick?" i blurted.

"here me out," she continued, "i know you dislike him because he's like your opposite, but his voice, oh my gosh, his voice," her eyelashes batted as i cringed. "you can tell he takes care of it. imagine how talented our kids would be," she said.

"you're weird."

"i'm gonna ask him out."

"hazel! you barely know this kid," it was the only thing i could think to say, intentionally to slow down her irrational decision to ask him out, but it wasn't really true. hazel and i had been hanging out with him all week, or at least she was hanging out with him and i was hanging out with her because i never really talked to him, all i did was listen. the way he told basic stories that happened to him personally was almost like he was painting a picture, but different for all of us. his words illustrated a scene in my head and i could immediately tell he liked to write. this kid would never shut up but i didn't mind it as much as i would at my old school, then again i was always on edge there.

hazel raised an eyebrow and said, "i know the basics. and i'm not asking him out right now."

"good," i mumbled. "hazel?" i asked and she poked her head up, looking at me, waiting for a question that i had stuck on my tongue.
