Thanksgiving

I didn't imagine today to be a very productive day. I didn't expect it to go the way that it did and I surely did not expect to be over dramatic and over emotional about everything.

I thought I was just gonna sleep all day and talk to Nico until I heard a knock at my bedroom door and I put my phone down and raised one eyebrow. Slowly, the door turned and my dad and in, so I straightened up my posture and felt my muscles tighten.

"Hey, son," he said, with a growing smile on his face. "Happy Thanksgiving."

He hadn't said that to me in years. What the hell had been going on with him? "Hi, dad," I said, taking a steady breath.

"I got something planned today. I want you to meet someone later."

"Someone?"

He was grinning widely and ran a hand through his wet hair. "A woman I met at A.A."

Alcoholics Anonymous? Since when was he trying to get better? I wasn't disappointed, I was so happy, but why now? Possibly he's doing it to be a better dad. "Is she an alcoholic?"

"She is many years clean but was," he said. "She's gorgeous and kind."

I nodded slowly and let a small smile cross my face. "Nice."

We invited this woman over for Thanksgiving Dinner, which was really, really strange because I actually had to help my father cook, and he was actually pretty good at it. Weird bonding time with your alcoholic daddy.

My dad was ecstatic when she arrived, and I just gotta say, she was way out of his league. She had long brown hair falling down her back, a violin shaped body and excellent bone structure. Her cheekbones were amazing.
She had dark skin. She looked like Pocahontas, the Disney version at least.

She let dad take off her jacket to reveal a velvet dress that fit her body tightly. She smiled and reached a hand out towards me. I shook it, almost speechless.

I was gay, trust me on that, but even I can admire a woman's beauty like a straight guy when I see it.

"Hello, Will," she spoke softly, "my name is Aiyana. It's nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you, too."

We all sat down at the table and I couldn't help but stare at her. Everything began smoothly, we all talked and laughed. Everything felt new, like I was talking to two strangers. I saw my dad differently, for statues, he was less drunk than usual. Then, came the question that I should have avoided asking. Maybe my feelings would have been spared.

"So, how did you guys meet?"

My dad slid his hand into Aiyana's and chuckled to himself. "It was a few months ago. I was passed out in a ditch, drunk. Aiyana here is a doctor who found me."

She nodded slowly. "Yes, I must say, on first glance he looked almost like a dead body," she giggled. "but I saw him move his finger and invited him into my office, which you should never do, by the way. I always carry a hand gun by my side so I thought it'd be okay if I followed reasonable rules to ensure my safety. We talked though, along time that night."

"That is true," dad said, nodding slowly. "She convinced me to go to AA. Found out I'm a pretty good person sober, huh?"

I can't explain to you why I felt rage inside. I mean, I probably can, but I would sound super selfish. I just felt my heart pull and my throat catch. "I guess so," I said loosely, looking around and blinking the tears that were about to come out.
