After Mike and Billie's reunion, things were a lot better in the house. Ollie had come home later that day to see Billie teaching Mike the basics about guitar. She was very confused, but her heart melted when she realized her boys didn't hate each other anymore. It was hard for her, coming home to all the yelling and screaming. She hated seeing Billie hurt at the expense of his best friends touch. She now hoped that things were going in the right direction.
It was Christmas Eve. Ollie had to work late at the diner, so Billie and Mike were home alone, as usual.
"Hey Mike!" Billie yelled from his room.
"What do you want, asshole!" Mike yelled back.
"Wanna do somethin' special for Christmas?" Billie had run downstairs where Mike was fixing himself a bowl of cereal.
"Bro, thats like, gay."
"Yeah, just like you." Billie leaned against the counter with a sassy look in his eye.
Mike just eyed him over his bowl.
"C'mon, Please???? It'll be fun!" Billie said.
"Whatever man thats cool. What are you planning on doing?"
"Well I had a little something in mind.."
"Oh no."
______
"Where the hell are we Bill? It's cold."
"Chill out Mike, I had to finish a deal."
"A deal-"
"Stay right here Mike, I'll be right back."
"What- oh. Ok?"
Mike was very confused. He leaned against the cold bricks of the 7-11, his breaths swirling in front of him. He's still adjusting to the new Billie.
"Thanks, two dollar bill!" Mike heard an unfamiliar voice yell.
"No problem bud!!" Billie yelled back, huffing as he ran over to Mike.
"Two dollar Bill?" Mike asked.
"Oh yeah. Thats my dealer name."
It suddenly hit Mike that Billie sells weed.
"Billie! Oh my god you're a dealer??"
"Yeah, why?"
"N- Nothing, just wasn't expecting that."
"Yeah, how do you think I get all the pickups and pedals for my guitar? I need money somehow."
"Huh."
"Anyway, I was wondering if ya wanted to head over to Christie? For old times sake?"
Christie Road was where Billie and Mike would go to relax, talk about everything and anything. It was these abandoned railroad tracks near their house.
Mike smiled softly at the memory. "Yeah sure. Lets go."
________
"Yo, DUDE! You're so fucking great Bill."
They were high.
"Bro! Thanks!! I try" Billie lazily laughed. He sighed as Mike kept talking about God knows what. He contemplated about their life, as he did so often.
"Mike, what do you think is out there?" Bille whispered softly. He was suddenly very solemn.
"Hahaha, what?" Mike was still somewhere else.
"Like, out there. Among the stars. I mean, were so little. Isn't there a point to this, or are we just here to live out a shitty routine everyday, not being spontaneous. Look at all the stars. There has to be a reason were here, right?" Billie stared up at the stars.
Mike looked into his eyes. He saw a child. "I think, if were here, something put us here. So if something put us here, there must be a reason. Maybe we don't know until it's over the reason why were here.
Sometimes, when I look at the stars, I see pieces of myself. I think were descended from the stars. Some of us are placed here, and are successful and happy. But some of us weren't ready to be here, and we went too early. Instead of being placed, we fell. From the stars."
Billie had nothing to say. Mike's theory had his mind running. In all honesty, there were no words needed. They just sat there, the words floating between them.
Fell. From the stars.
