Chapter 13

Owen got home and Kailey was home doing her homework. Owen didn't tell her about the custody.
"Hey dad, is everything alright? You're home early," Kailey said.
"Uh yeah, I just needed to think about something," Owen said.
"Jen called didn't she," Kailey said.
"What makes you say that," Owen said.
"Because she called me, and told me she called you," Kailey said.
"She called you!" Owen said frustrated.
"Yeah, but I didn't say anything I just listened to what she had to say and then I hung up," Kailey said crying, "she had no caller id I didn't know It was her."
"Okay okay," Owen said, "what did she say?"
"She said she's going to take me from you, Dad she can't do that can she?"
"She can but I️m not going to let that happen," Owen said.
"Dad," Kailey said crying. Owen hugged Kailey tightly. Kailey started crying more. She got flashbacks from her abusive mother. She had been so thankful to live with her father for almost ten years now, she couldn't be ripped from him now.
"I don't want to go to Ryan's, can you like call him mom," Kailey said, "I'll be in my room."
"Okay," Owen said. He picked up his phone and called Amelia.
"Hey," Amelia said, "how are you?"
"Jen called Kailey she's really upset she doesn't want to see Ryan today," Owen said.
"Okay," Amelia said.
"And to answer your question I️m Okay," Owen said.
"Okay," Amelia said.
"I gotta go, I need to call Jen," Owen said.
"Okay," Amelia said.
"I'll call you later," Owen said.
"Okay," Amelia said. Owen hung up and he could hear Kailey crying in her room. He walked up the stairs and knocked on his daughters door. He opened the door and Kailey was sitting on her phone crying. She got up and hugged her dad tightly.
"She's not going to take you," Owen said.
"Why can't I make the decision?" Kailey said, "I'm almost fourteen."
"I know," Owen said, "I️m going to try to push this until you turn 14."
"Okay," Kailey said. Kailey wanted to be left alone, Owen knew that. He went downstairs and called Jen again. They had a heated conversation for over an hour. I️t ended with Owen and Jen screaming at each other, yelling terrible things. Kailey was sitting alone in her room.
"YOU FUCKING SON A BITCH," she heard her dad yell from downstairs. He had been yelling at Jen for the last 20 minutes. Amelia was at Derek and Meredith's house for dinner. Ryan was with his cousins and Amelia was sitting in the kitchen with Derek and Meredith. Owen needed to get out of the house.
"Kailey I need to get out of the house I'll be back before 9 I️ promise," Owen said.
"Where are you going," Kailey said.
"I️ need to go see a friend okay?" Owen said. Owen threw on his jacket and got in his truck. He needed to talk to Amelia. Owen picked up his phone and called Amelia. Amelia's phone rang.
"Hey Derek can you grab that?" Amelia said. Derek grabbed Amelia's phone off the counter. He saw it was Owen.
"Hey it's Owen," Derek said, "why is Owen calling you?"
"Just give I️t to me," Amelia said. Derek raised and eyebrow and gave her her phone.
"Hey what's up," Amelia said.
"Amelia I need to talk to you," Owen said.
"Are you okay what happened?" Amelia said.
"Where are you?" Owen said.
"Owen," Amelia said. She heard cars in the background.
"Are you driving?" Amelia said.
"Yes, I need to talk to you I just fought with Jen for an hour and she's going to take Kailey," Owen said.
"Owen listen to me," Amelia said.
"I️m listening," Owen said.
"I️m at Derek's, hang up and drive safely please," Amelia said.
"Okay," Owen said. Amelia hung up and put her head in her hands. She was really worried about Owen. He didn't sound alright.
"Is he alright?" Derek asked.
"No, I️m gonna talk to him," Amelia said.
"Okay," Derek said.
"I think I love him," Amelia said.
