Luke walked next to me as I read my book around the garden. We were suppose to be waiting for the flowers to come for us to pick what we wanted for the wedding. I could tell that Luke wanted nothing more than to go back to work but he was gritting his teeth for me.
"They are late," he told me. I looked up from my book and looked at him. I nodded and then looked at my book again.
"You know that they probably got stuck in a business thing with other people," I told him and he stopped walking. I looked at him and he took my book from my hands.
"You've been quiet," he commented. I shrugged.
"I would say that the domestic life makes everyone quieter," I said as I folded my hands in front of me. He touched my cheek and smiled.
"Don't be quiet. We live in the freak house to everyone else," he told me and I rolled my eyes.
"There is only 20 rooms... that she keeps building and destroying to rebuild them," I said, realising how insane Mrs. Winchester sounded.
"She's been here since 1890," he told me and I nodded.
"You've told me," I stated, "Nearly eleven years now." He nodded.
"I wondered why people don't think that we are insane," he said and I laughed.
"They probably do think that we are just as insane because we work for someone that they think is insane," I told him and he smiled a really sad smile.
"She lost everything and then spirits go after her and everyone calls her mad," he said and I nodded.
"The point is that none of us think that she is insane," I said and he held my hands. I was happy to just look at him.

I was carrying a basket when I heard a scream. I dropped the basket and ran towards the scream. I entered the bedroom where Mrs Winchester was screaming and Max and Luke were trying to calm her down.
"Mrs. Winchester, please," Max said as he tried to help her sit down. She pushed him away and Max took two steps back.
"The spirits don't like someone in the house!" she yelled and I walked to her.
"Samantha, stay back, please," Luke said, looking at me. I nodded and looked at Mrs. Winchester. Her eyes locked on me and I felt my face lose all colour.
"Samantha, come here," Mrs. Winchester said. I looked at Luke and he nodded. I walked closer to Mrs. Winchester and she grabbed my hands. She was strong for her age and I gasped in response. "The spirits know things that we don't, Samantha. Help me and the spirits find who don't belong. The spirits are mad." I swallowed and nodded.
"What can I do to help?" I asked and she touched my face. She looked at Luke and Max.
"Out. Get out," she told them. Luke and Max looked at each then headed out of the room. She sat in her chair and I knelt next to her. "Someone did something that the spirits are not happy about," she told me.
"What did they did?" I asked. She looked around and shook her head.
"They say that you need to find it out," she said and I nodded as she held my cheek.
"They trust you," she told me and I looked around. The spirit that followed me was standing in the corner and looked at me. I locked eyes with him and he cocked his head at me as I looked down.
"How will I know?" I asked, quietly, and she looked around.
"They will tell you," she said and I nodded.
"How?" I asked. She patted my head.
"You will know when you find the person," she said, "Just tell me as soon as you know who is angering the spirits. The spirits will be angry if you keep it a secret from me." I nodded as I stood up and she looked at me.
"The second I find out anything, I will tell you Mrs. Winchester," I said and she nodded as she looked out the window. I walked out of the room and Luke and Max were waiting outside for me. I looked at them and they both looked at me, waiting for information about what Mrs. Winchester told me in the room. "She will be okay," I said as I tried to walk away but Luke grabbed my arm lightly yet firmly.
"What did she say?" he asked. I shook my head and he let my arm go.
"Later, I promise," I whispered to him so Max couldn't hear what I was saying. Luke nodded as he let me go and I walked to the next room where I leaned against the wall to take a deep breath.
If the spirits were saying something about someone doing the house wrong, what did that mean for the house and everyone here? No. I needed to stay level headed while I was working and I had to help Mrs. Winchester feel at ease. I swallowed the lump in my throat and headed back to fallen basket that was completely packed. I looked up and down the hall but didn't see anyone around that would have picked up the basket.
"Samantha?" I jumped and pressed my body against the wall to look at the source of the voice. Madalynn. I touched my chest as my heart tried to slow down. "Are you okay? You look like you saw a ghost that didn't belong in the house," she said as she touched my shoulder.
"Did you put the clothes in the basket?" I asked as I looked at the basket. She looked at the basket and shook her head.
"Was it empty?" she asked. I ran my hand through my hair slightly.
"Yes... No... I dropped it because I heard screaming and when I came back it was full again," I said and she looked just as scared as I was feeling.
"I am sure that someone cleaned it up but they just had their hands full," she said and I nodded.
"Of course," I said as I picked up the basket and she smiled at me as we walked to the laundry room.
