Luke held my hand as we walked into the house. Mrs. Winchester was waiting for us and she smiled as she saw our hands laced together. Or at least, I think it was a smile since I could barely see her face under her veil.

"Congratulations," she said and I looked at Luke, "I am having a house built for you on the property."

"That is not -" Luke started but Mrs. Winchester raised her hand to stop him.

"I insist," she said and I nodded to Mrs Winchester in thanks.

"Thank you, Mrs Winchester," I said as Luke rubbed my arm and I saw Braxton with a broken look, looking at me as he stood in the doorway with a piece of paper.

"Mrs Winchester, I just wanted to check that we are reading this correctly," Braxton asked as he walked up to us. I looked at my feet and Luke rubbed my back.

"If you excuse us, we have to get to work," Luke said and I gave Braxton one last look as Luke led me out of the room. "I need to go do some paperwork."

"And I need to go do some laundry." He gave me a peck on the lips and I smiled as he gave me a final look.

"I will see you tonight," he said and I nodded as he turned to go do work but he stopped, "You know, you are getting special treatment since you are my fiancée," he told me.

"Don't you mean that I won't get special treatment?" I asked and he shook his head.

"I am being honest. You are getting special treatment because you are my wife in practice," he told me before leaving me alone in the hall. I smiled and spun on the ball of my foot.

"Luke and you are engaged," Braxton said and I looked at him. He was standing in the doorway with a piece of paper in his hand but he scared me with the look of betrayal on his face and one of his hands in a fist.

"He asked my father and brothers," I told him and hid my left hand.

"Congratulations," he said, "You got engaged to the worse person in the house."

"First of all, I don't recall asking your opinion. Secondly, if you attempted to get to know him, you would see that he is nothing like that," I told him and he looked away.

"You've only known him for a month and a half, some of us have known him for two years now," he said and I shook my head.

"I have work to do, Braxton. Have a nice day," I told him and walked out of the room. I pulled my hair over my shoulder as I walked to the kitchen.

"Hello Samantha! Can you help with the sweeping?" Madalynn asked as I walked in and I was more than willing to help her.

"I think we should start upstairs and work down," I told her as we headed to the morning room and she turned to the stairs. We walked up and Madalynn looked at me.

"I know people will be upset that you are engaged to Luke but just brave it and don't fight them," she said as we got to the top of the stairs and I looked at her.

"Why in heaven's name would anyone be upset? An engagement is a private matter that doesn't involve them," I stated.

"Mrs. Winchester gave Luke the ring to propose to you," she told me and I looked at the simple ring on my finger.

"I love Luke and it shouldn't matter who gave me the ring because I am never changing my mind about the engagement," I said and Luke came around the corner. He smiled at me with a raised eyebrow.

"I love you too, Samantha," he told me and I felt my eyes grow. I smiled sheepishly at him and he nodded to Madalynn. "I believe I was eavesdropping and that is not polite, so I apologise and I do believe we all have work to do right now." I nodded and he kissed my forehead.

"I will see you at dinner," I said and he nodded.

"I will see you at dinner," he said and I walked pass him to join Madalynn, who was giggling.

"What is the matter?" I asked as we continued walking down the hall.

"You get so red when you talk to him. Your cheeks, your ears, your neck. At the wedding, you will be red and white," she laughed and I hit her arm.

"Stop it," I told her as I laughed and we entered the first room to sweep.

"I think you two are adorable. Now, I don't like Luke but you do so I am not going to say anything," she told me as we started on opposite sides of the room. I looked at her and raised an eyebrow.

"You didn't say anything on the ride back here," I commented and she nodded as she swept in the corner. "I think Luke is a suitable husband and he is sweet once you get to know him."

"There is no doubt of that, Samantha. But he is in charge of us at the house," she said and I nodded.

"Assistant head of staff, I know," I said and she looked at me.

"Aren't you afraid that he will make you stop working?" she asked and I shook my head as bent over to pick up a piece of paper.

"I don't think that will be the case," I said and she nodded as she leaned down to put the dust pan down. I stopped moving for a second and looked out the window to think about what she said.

"Samantha, are you okay?" she asked as she stood up straight and I looked at her.

"I am, just thinking," I said and she nodded as she walked over to me.

"You know that you and Luke will be okay. Talk to him," she told me and I nodded.
