They were at the mall. No, she did not drag him there. Unfortunately, Megan had planned a big party at the cave for the team and the league. The League surprisingly excepted the invitation, ready for a well needed night of relaxation and fun. Although Superman could not attend, something that had to do with Lois.
But alas, the couple had nothing to wear, and the only place they could think on getting clothes was the mall. They both dreaded this, because you just stood there trying to find an outfit appropriate. The dress code was a dance, as in formal clothing.
Wally was trying to find a suit that fit and was comfortable, not really minding how it looked. Same with Artemis, as long as it wasn't uncomfortable and it fit, that's all that mattered.
Suddenly there was a crash, and all the customers in the stores ran out to the railing to look below. A store below had their windows crashed; and five men in normal clothing had guns pointed at customers, shoring orders. The security officer wasn't helping, as he hid behind his Segway.
They looked to each other. Of all days, why today? They both groaned. Plus they didn't have their costumes, and they couldn't risk their identities. "I have an idea, follow me." She whispered to him.
The rest of the crowd was standing still by the railings, not daring to move. They snuck through without the guys seeing them. She led him through the normal clothes store, and they went to the hoodie section.
The clerk looked at them like they were insane, but didn't move. "Artemis!" Wally whisper- yelled. "What are you DOING?!" He asked.
She grabbed an oversized hoodie that said 'too cool to care' on it. He took it and mouthed 'really?'. She nodded and grabbed one that had an arrow on it. "How come you get a cool sweatshirt?" He said.
"Wally! Is this really the time to argue about clothes?" She whisper- shouted.
They slipped on the clothes and she grabbed two pairs of sunglasses. "Put these on!" She whispered.
He groaned and they put their hoods up too. "Let's go." She said.
He grabbed her arm. "We can't just waltz out there! What about my speed? I can't use that!"
"Wally, if your telling me all of Black Canary training means nothing to you, then that's a real disappointment." She crossed her arms.
"What about weapons?" He asked.
She glared at him. "Ok fine." He groaned. "So what's the plan?" He asked.
"There is none." She jumped over the terrace and landed below. The guns were instantly pointed at her. Wally's jaw dropped. He was seriously going to kill his girlfriend. If these guys didn't do it first.
Instead of jumping over the terrace insanely, he did what a normal person would do and took the stairs. Artemis has thrown bowls from a nearby kiosk and knocked the guns out of their hands. She made a move to get them, but one of them grabbed her, and she was very annoyed.
Wally set to work himself, not being a trained assassin like a certain archer, he chose to use what Black Canary had taught him on attacks. First off, he had the element of surprise under his belt, and it's not like he couldn't be a little bit fast. So he ran at a speed that was fast but wasn't superhuman fast, and tackled the guy to the ground, quickly getting up and kicking his in the shins, gut, and side, just for extra measure.
The guy doubled over, and Wally used a Headbutt he'd learned last week to knock him out. Ok, so he was a little dizzy now...but it was worth it!
Artemis had knocked out the guy behind her. Somehow, the other guy had thrown a knife and gotten a lucky shot, burying the tip into her calf. She fell with a yelp, and Wally went to rage mode.
Oh, how sweet, girl gets injured, boyfriend becomes protective, and rushes to save her! Yeah, no. Yes, Wally did turn to rage mode, but so did Artemis. She ripped the knife out and winced. Then, she stood. Sure, her performance wasn't going to be best. But now she had a weapon. Which made death for amateur robbers.
Wally raged on, forgetting about planning attacks, and just letting them come. He eventually fully took down three guys, and he looked towards Artemis, who was having a civilized conversation about how throwing knives at people was extremely rude with her attacker, while attacking. Soon, all five guys were either unconscious, or tied up.
They looked to see everyone staring at them. "We should—"
"Go." They said in union.
They bolted out of the mall. Everyone stunned at the ten minute fight.
But they still didn't have clothing. So, they settled to a thrift shop. Where they found decent clothing. So kids, the message in this story is not to be the hero, it's that thrift shops are the way to go. (Kidding.)
