Dust fell thousands of feet below. Down to the waters.
The rest of the team was back at camp. They thought he'd gone on a hike, which technically was true.
Barry hates him. He failed the mission. Nine people was the known death-tole. Just the known death-tole. There could've been more.
It was all because he wasn't focused, he was caught up in the view on the rooftop, and he didn't run to grab the bomb. He was too late.
Barry wouldn't even talk to him. He just gave him this look of disappointment. "Wally, just give me time. Right now I just- I just can't." He'd Said.
He remembered the little girl. She had shiny red curls, pulled into two pig-tails. Her tear streaked face was burned into his mind. He couldn't close his eyes without seeing her.
He just, he couldn't take it. He couldn't, all the disappointment. He tried so hard to forget, to get rid of the horrible feeling of a weight on his shoulders, and the heart aching feeling.
He stood at the edge of the cliff. Ready to end it all. A tear rolled down his cheeks slowly, and he took a step forward. One step, and it would all be over. He'd get what he deserv- "Wally?"
He knew that voice more then anyone else in the world. He turned around. "Artemis?"
She tucked a strand of hair back behind her ear. She wore it down today, just because he pleaded and pleaded to see her golden locks free. Reluctantly, she'd pulled out the elastic band containing the thousands of strands of gold.
"Wally?" She asked again.
He broke. He couldn't take it anymore. Tears rolled rapidly down his cheeks as he choked back a sob. She took her steps forward and wrapped her arms around him.
He held her tighter then anything, afraid she'd disappear. He didn't deserve her. He didn't deserve to live. His sobs racked his body. And she whispered soothing sounds.
He felt like she knew. But she didn't say anything. She was just there, comforting him. "It's a-all my fault." He sobbed.
"Wally." She said firmly, almost angry. "It was not your fault."
He looked at her steel grey eyes. They had such determination in them, something he had lost. They were slanted with determination, and he was sure they were burning holes into his head.
"Artemis, you weren't there." He said.
"I didn't have to be."
"The-The little girl. S-she didn't get to go to high school, probably not even 1st grade! She missed her whole life because of me! Artemis, n-no one deserves to live after that!" He yelled.
She slapped him.
.....
.....
"Did you just slap me?" He asked.
"Yes."
"Like, actual slap?" He asked.
"No, Wally, I mystically did it." She rolled her eyes.
"Why?"
"Cause I wanted to." She shrugged.
"But, Like, that hurt." He whimpered.
"So?"
"So you owe me an apology." He said, crossing his arms.
"Hmm. I don't think I do." She smirked.
"But you slapped the Wall-Man. That deserves punishment young lady!" He wagged his finger.
"I don't think so." She said.
"Then I guess the tickle monster is going to make a visit." He said, smirking evilly.
Artemis face paled. "No! No I didn't mean it- Wally stop!" She giggled.
She laughed as he pushed her against the tree, tickling the life out of her. "S-stop!" She laughed.
To her surprise, he did. And he placed his head in the crook of her neck, taking in her sent. "That Wally, the one who would never hurt someone on purpose, deserves to live."
"But Ar—"
"No. Wally, did you press the button to detonate that bomb?"
"Well, no, but-"
"Then you didn't do it. Which means scientifically you did not do it." She said.
He sighed, "But I let it hap-"
"You didn't. You ran. You tried. Wally, that's enough."
"But Barry-"
"Screw Barry. He just doesn't want to admit that he didn't try, and you did."
"Artemis." He sighed.
"Wally. Don't do it. Don't even think about going near that cliff again. Or I will personally kick your ass." She said.
He chuckled. "Oh, is that so."
"Yes. As a matter of face it is." She crosses her arms and held her head up.
"Ok then." He laughed.
He held her tight. He didn't know whatever he'd do without her. "I don't deserve you."
"That might be true. But your stuck with me anyway. And your not getting rid of me." She smiled.
"I love you."
"I love food. C'mon, I'm hungry." She said, dragging him through the forest.
"You suck." He frowned.
"But I love you." She smirked.
That shut him up.
