Have you ever wondered why flowers that don't bear fruit exists? Is it just to beautify the surroundings? Is it just because the plant that bears them needs to put their extra sugar into something else, other than their nutrition? Or is it just so they could die? Why? Why should something so beautiful as a flower would just die? What a cruel world we are living in.
This is a story of a flower, beautiful and fresh, that rose from a plant of a fragile origin. My name is Haruki, 17, male, nothing to do in his life other than play games and watch anime. I guess you could say that I'm average in height. I got a bit messy hair due to my hair as a bit wavy. I'm an uninteresting guy, just your typical high schooler with uninteresting life. I have a childhood friend, a girl, her name is Sayori. We've been friends for at least forever now. We're on second year of our high school now, and we're still best friends.
I will tell you a story when we were still children. This is just your typical "childhood-friend-background-story" that you read on most novels, or watched in most animes and movies. So you're free to punch me in the face for telling you this, but i still want you to listen, no matter what.
When we were children, Sayori and I loved to play on a park near our house. Every afternoon, we play under the shade of the same old cherry blossom that we knew that stood its ground on the park, like a king saying that, "this is my place", and marking the park that it is its majestic reign, we dig holes on the ground, play house, and during spring, we count the cherry blossoms that fall from the tree. We really felt that it could last forever. We always come home dirty, and always get scolded by my parents. When we were at primary school, we even eat ice cream while running in the rain. When we got to junior high, i once got to a fight because those bullies made Sayori cry by teasing her, saying that she is a tomboy. "Hahaha", i laughed, "I can't believe that all of this happened when we were kids", i said to myself.
My mother is a housewife, my father is a businessman. Thus, my mother is always at home, and my father sometimes comes late, and sometimes early. Sayori's parents are frontline medical researchers. They are one of those that creates new medicines that we used. With that, Sayori's parents always asks my mother to look for their daughter when they were not around, since we were neighbors.
When we were just six, I don't really know what did happen, my mother just told me, Sayori's parents died in a plane crash accident. Along with them is a new research they were carrying for a cure of a newly discovered disease. They were off to America, but it was said that the plane got hi-jacked along the jet streams of the pacific. Sayori got all her parents' wealth and pension when she was just three. But she didn't even remembered her parents' faces, for her, she only saw them in photographs that are full of memories of her parents, that she didn't even know existed.
Now, the plant had died but left the flower to fendfor its own in the harsh rainforest called reality. What will a flower that isonly beautiful and fragile do in an environment with so much challenges ahead?
