The weeks followed, and the numbers here stayed the same. Those things only showed up once or twice on occasion, and that was only on the warning from the Dixon brother's who ventured out. I was just sitting with the kids, waiting for some of the mothers to wake up.
They're always watching over Addie, so why not make the habit of doing it as well, it was simply.
Entertaining them until they've moved onto another topic.
Emilia was one of Moral's kids, they weren't the best at communicating in English. So I took a hand at the small amount of Spanish I did know. And the kids acknowledged my attempt and in doing so allowed for them to continue speaking through and through. But once I was released, I sent off. Wanting to check the snares once again, every other day or so I manage to do it. Gets me out of this camp for the smallest moment.
"Mom!" My daughter yelled after me, and so as I stopped right on outside my tent. Fastening my holster to my jeans did I wait for her cutting response on why I should let her come with me.And I will say, she's been preparing this for a while for the fact that she brought key points up like 'I want to learn' and 'I want to come with you,' so in the end. I lead her to Shane, where I told him where we were going and an estimated time for it.
After that, we started by my jeep. Working our way through the woods to locate the first one, kneeling down in the dirt did I resent the damn thing. Not catching anything other than another layer of tracks to taunt me.But that's when it really pointed out to me, how sudden the tracks soon appeared in my eyes. 'Got us a deer.' my mind shouted, full-blown in Dixon accent. But I wasn't over the moon just yet, kneeing down did I not know how fresh they truly were, or if I can even remember how far we were. Just a good minute or two down from the third snare.
"Mommy, what's that?" I looked up to my daughter as she kneed down beside me, I smiled and brought her close as I told her who's hoof it is. By now the snares weren't in my mind anymore, nothing came about the first three and anything could wait until I've told either of the Dixon brothers. So off we returned, and Addie was keen on trying to return the knife. But I shook my head.
"I want you to keep this on you, alright? If something happens you can protect yourself." She was confused, of course, but played it off like any other kid would. Returning it to her belt and playing with the other kids around her age, reading or writing.Whatever the main activity is for today.
Judging by the bustle around, I doubt Merle is still sleeping, especially by now.
And that was proven to be a fact once I saw his back facing me and talking down to Daryl. It didn't seem like either one of them was enjoying the conversation, in fact. I think it was entirely one-sided like it usually was.It astounds me that I can remember this far back into my life, that it's so vividly imagined that it's here now...
"Blake...I was wondering if you can help with laundry today? Can use a hand." I nodded, and she handed me the basket to ask around me. Half the reason she probably gave me this was because she knew what my plan was, to go over to the Dixon's.Everyone tried their best to be nice, but there's a fine line between our camp and there's. And the obvious approach was fucking obvious. So here I am, laundry basket in hand halfway full as I came forward.
Daryl already gave him brother a heads up with the nick forward, making Merle smile in the instant. Doesn't look like the conversation was fun at all.
"Look at this fuckin' picture, they got ya on laundry duty?"
"Don't rub it in..." I shot back, and he chuckled. Looking back to my kid running around enjoying herself, the little laughter had me look around. And I guess it had Merle take a gander off as well.
"...Anything you need me to wash?" I offered, and he shrugged nodding along as he went and returned back to his tent to grab something. Once he threw it in, did I extend the offer.
"You too." I chuckled, and to be fair. I doubt Daryl was sure I was talking to him, only when Merle kicked his shoe did he trail back to think.I can see it in his eyes, he was ignoring me and for good reason. On order of his brother did he get up and take the given few clothes he had.
