I wake up the next morning early, like I usually do. I get up and stretch. I look around the room. I don't understand how these two boys could make such a mess in a few days.

From the corner of my eye, I spot a puppet sitting on the kitchen counter. I go over to investigate.

He sits upright, and wears a hat, orange striped pants, white shoes, white mits, and a blue shirt with "CAL" on it. I carefully pick him up, and inspect him. He looked kinda creepy, really. But he was just some doll, so I shouldn't let it get to my head.

A deep voice sounds right behind me, making me jump. "You like Lil Cal?"

I glance over my shoulder to see who it was, and felt relief when it turned out to be Bro.

"Yeah, he looks cool." I set him back down and turned to face Bro, who was uncomfortably close.

"What're you doing up so early? You don't need to be up for another hour or so."

I shrug and try to take a step back, even though I was already against the counter. "I just.. woke up."

He keeps an unemotional gaze, and slowly moves his hand up, and onto my cheek. It's warm and rough, but gentle. I furrow my eyebrows, confused.

"You're the first girl he's brought home.." he says solemnly. He sighs and steps away. "You should try to sleep again. You look like you need it." He walked off down the hallway, to what I presume would be towards his room.

I stare after him for about five minutes or so, then go back to the futon. I stare at the ceiling, letting my thoughts about this encounter with Bro flow through my mind.

At some point I must have fallen asleep, because the next thing I know, I'm being shaken awake. My first instinct is to bolt up, and take in my surroundings. My nervous eyes flit around the room, only to land on Dave, his expression now turning into worry.

"Hey, you okay? I didn't mean to scare you."

I shake my head and let myself relax. "Yeah I'm fine. It's okay." I run a hand through my tangled hair, sighing. My thoughts already go back to what happened when I first woke up.

"Alright. You should start getting ready. And Bro is gonna make us some breakfast."

I stand and scratch the back of my head. I sigh and stalk off to the bathroom. I wash my face and stare at myself. I head back out, snatch my backpack, and go back to the bathroom to change into normal clothes.

A knock comes from the door, and Bro's voice sounded from the other side. "Breakfast." I open the door, already dressed, and follow him out to the kitchen.

Aaaaand why was I expecting anything gourmet from this guy? There were three bowls of Lucky Charms on the counter, one already being consumed by Dave. I sat next to him, and began eating.

A half an hour later, we're all done and I'm back in the bathroom, fighting Dave for the mirror as we brush our teeth. I finish first and leave Dave to finish. He quickly follows after me, his hand grazing my thigh as we walk side-by-side.

I step an inch away and cross my arms. From the corner of my eye, I can see him slightly pout for a moment. We step out into the living room. I grab my bag, which was next to the now-folded futon. I turned back to Dave, who had his bag over his shoulder.

Bro grabbed the keys to the truck and led to way. The ride to school was silent, and it gave me more time to think. I started to wonder if what had happened earlier was just an odd dream and not something that really occurred.

Dave and I got out silently and headed for class. He glanced at me while we walked down the hall, and spoke up.

"Are you doing alright?"

"Yeah, I'm alright. Just thinking." I shrugged.

"You're a little odd this morning. I'm a little worried 'bout you."

"You don't need to be. I'm fine."

I looked around the hall in a quick glance, and spotted Queen Bitch and her posse. I stared at the ground in front of me, praying to not be noticed. Why do I have an unlucky streak?

Veronica came up to me and put her hand on my shoulder, stopping me. Dave immediately interjected, pushing her away. She waved her hand dismissively at him.

"Just let me talk to her. I won't hurt her."

Dave didn't move for a moment, but then stepped a little to the side so we can see each other uninterrupted.

"What do you want?" I growled.

"Meet me at the at the tree out front at lunch. I want to talk to you." She spoke, using the same demanding tone she used with her side-bitches. This really worried me.

"Why?"

"Just do it."

She walked away, a slight wave of her hand indicating for her girls to follow down the hall.

I looked at Dave, and we slowly continued to walk.

"Do you want me there in case something happens?"

"I'd really appreciate it."

"Then I'll stay close." He put a hand on my shoulder and gently squeezed it, giving me reassurance.

We arrived to class about 10 minutes before the bell, so we just sat and talked about our interests.

I learned that he liked to rap, and he had some interest for swords and fighting but that was mostly his brothers thing. He also loved photography, and it was hard for him to keep the smile off his face as he talked about it. I found myself loving the sound of his voice as he enthused about photography, and I found myself wanting him to never stop.

Sadly, we were interrupted by the five minute bell ringing, and we decided to get our supplies out and get ready for the boring day ahead, until lunch.
