Chapter 3 || Secrets and Accidents ||
Ravenna's POV
-
After sixth period, I walked out to my rusty blue pick-up truck. While I drove home, I thought about the events of today and sighed. I drummed my fingertips on the black leather steering wheel and ran my tongue over my bottom lip as I thought about the kiss. Was I ready to be back with Riker? Was it too much to handle right now? Well, I wasn't giving him an answer right then, that's for sure.
My grip tightened on the wheel until my knuckles went white. I was now thinking about Dalton and that stunt he pulled. Not just touching my chin, that was usual so I got used to it, but kissing my cheek before walking out with two juniors on his hips, a smirk on his lips. I couldn't help but roll my eyes in disgust. He actually thought I'd be jealous of those snobs? Please, I pitied them. I felt bad about the heartbreak they were going to get.
I parked in my spot next to our double garage. I opened the door but just sat in my seat and stared at the red Cadillac in the spot next to mine; my father's prized possession. I begged my mom to park it in the empty garage beside her mini van but we both refused to move the keys from the mantle. I felt something wet and warm run down my cheek and swatted it away quickly. I was not weak.
As I opened the front door, I could here my mom on the phone. She was discussing something, as usual, but she seemed to be yelling. She was upstairs but I could swear if I went downstairs, I would be able to hear her in the basement.
"Mom?" I yelled when the shouting had muted. No response. I ran upstairs, concerned. Her bedroom door was open and I walked into the doorway. The sight I saw, I'd never forget. She was sitting on her Queen bed, some guy at the foot, her mouth on his. I gaped at her and cupped my hands in utter horror at the sight trying not to make a sound as I backed away but the guy spotted me and pulled away from my mother.
"Richard, I--" she caught sight of me out of the corner of her eye and her eyes glazed over with on coming tears.
"Ravenna," she started but I ran to my room. I grabbed my iPhone and earbuds and hit the shuffle button on my playlist. Take Me Home - Cash Cash started blaring music into my ears. I grabbed random assortments of clothes and threw them into my duffel. My eyes were blurring over with tears as I grabbed my make-up bag, my iPad and iPod, and stuffed it all into my bag before running downstairs and out the door.
I knew I shouldn't have been driving but I was. It seemed like it was raining, which was likely but I couldn't tell, due to my flow of tears. I couldn't stop sobbing. I sounded like a dead cat but I droned it out by bursting fm radio out of my surround sound.
I drove around aimlessly for 10 minutes before there was any traffic that came into sight. As the headlights approached, I knew it was raining. The sun was setting in shades of pink, and grey that merged together. As the fancy sports car came head on, I realized that I was on the wrong side of the road. It was all a blur, but I must of swerved because all I heard was their tires squealing in protest against the road and then the asshole drove off. I sat there, stunned before I felt the pain.
