just a reminder that this book started in 2016, so yes, it still takes place in 2016, which means the school year is 2016-2017.

"We welcome everyone to a new school year! We have a lot of things planned this year to make sure that you're on the path for a better future." Our principal greeted us through the slightly broken microphone. Seriously, it wouldn't hurt to spend a little bit of cash on a few new ones.

"As most of you should know, I'm Mr. Fowler, your school principal, and this is Mr. Martin, your vice principal. Out jobs are to make sure both the teachers and the students, along with any other school employees, are doing their jobs. Yes, as students, you have jobs here as well. Your job, as students, are to treat all staff with respect and to achieve the highest scores possible. As a student, you..."

"Hey, do you have a pair of headphones?" I asked Tony. I realized he already had a pair in his ears when he completely ignored me and started slightly bobbing his head. I rolled my eyes and was about to ask Kellin instead, but he already mouthed a 'no' before I could even ask. It's always a sin to leave your headphones at home on the first day of school.

School meetings are always a drag, especially the mandatory one on the first day of school. Mr. Fowler is a great principal, but he really should start spicing up his routine. He also could use a confidence boost as well. Usually Mrs. Sanders would give him that confidence boost, but since she got replaced by Mr. Martin last year, he's been dry again.

I decided to try and find Zack instead. I really hope we can pull this relationship off. I can't have people at school finding out about us because Zack would get in trouble, and I can't have people at work finding out because I'll get in trouble. The entire time Rian was there, I fussed at him about Alex getting perks at his job because they were together, so going around and doing the same thing wouldn't only be hypocritical, but disrespectful.

I spotted Zack standing next to the other science teachers. I also spotted Vic standing with the social studies teachers, and Rian standing with the math teachers. I still can't believe he's my pre-cal teacher now.

When Rian spotted me, he grinned and wave. I really haven't talked to him much since he quit his old job, so I know we'll have to talk when seeing each other again. I started paying attention to Mr. Fowler again.

"So, before we start our first day back, I would like for our class of 2017 to stand! This is their last year here, and I can guarantee that they're going out strong."

Everyone in my class, alongside me, stood up. I always hated how our school overhyped the seniors every year until I became one. Your last year is either really fun or really dull, and knowing that students whom you've barely met like you just because you're a senior is always cool.

"I hope you enjoy the rest of the school day! And remember, make every year better than the last! You all are dismissed."

Kellin, Tony, and I only take Spanish together. I used to take French, but decided to drop out so I could be in the same class as them. It took a lot to convince the principal to put me in Spanish III with them, but he allowed it since I already have the required foreign language college credits needed for college with French. That class isn't until after lunch though. My first class is Economics.

"Okay, what's everyone's first class? I have to start memorizing your schedules now," Kellin asked. We nodded and showed each other's schedules. We always did this in the first day so we'll know where we are throughout the day. Tony and I usually take advantage of this to skip classes without Kellin knowing.

"I have two classes with Jack, and one with Tony...this sucks," He mumbled to himself.

"That's what you get for being a nerd," Tony said, which made Kellin angry, and led to them arguing as usual. It's almost like nothing changed.
