it had been 48 hours of pure madness. 48 hours of not really talking to mitchel and having infrequent text exchanges with christian. i had no idea what to do and it irritated me.
i was positioned with a cup of ramen noodles, binge watching the vampire diaries, my eyes trained on the tv screen when my close attention was promptly broken by a knock on my door.
i peeked up, slightly exasperated that someone had to interrupt me, considering i had just began season 6. rolling my eyes, i got up and unlatched the door, expecting it to be one of my countless annoying neighbors who somehow always wanted something.
i was rather taken back when i saw an uncommonly nicely dressed mitchel standing in front of me. a couple pieces of hair framed his face and the rest of it was tossed back into a ponytail.
"hello there laralyn." he said in his aussie accent, articulated just as sophisticated as always, like we were just meeting for the first time or something. "hey mitch," i replied, a grin working it's way onto my face as much as i didn't want it to.
"you seem happy," he observed, roaming in past me. i cast my eyes down and removed the smile off of my face. "just being friendly," i uttered, shutting the door and wheeling around to face him.
"i think we should go to olive garden." he voiced suddenly, "i mean they have the best breadsticks and pasta and it's probably my favorite restaurant. no matter where i tour, there is always guaranteed to be an amazing olive garden there." he blustered
i raised an eyebrow and chuckled. "olive garden?" i snickered. he produced a scowl on his face. "yeah, what's the problem with it?" he said fairly defensively.
"well, i just think it's rather random you show up at my door after not talking to me for 2 days and want to go on a date." i explained. he looked at me dumbfounded.
"i don't really remember the words date coming out of my mouth." he retaliated. ouch. that hurt. "oh," i faltered, "i just thought since ya know we...." i trailed off.
"well my fair lady, if you want it to be a date i definitely don't have a problem with it. it would be quite an honor actually to take you on a date." he countered, a small smirk coming onto his face.
i blushed for a second. "i'm not exactly dressed appropriately though." he browsed my image of a hoodie and sweatpants and shrugged. "you look amazing, but if you insist on getting dressed up so you can make me look even worse, go ahead." he dismissed, steering himself to the couch and sitting down as if to stay for me to get ready.
i nodded and rushed to my room, deciding on what to wear. mitchel was clothed in a black button up and his usual dark skinny jeans and he looked quite great.
i exhaled and determined on a silk navy button up that slid off my shoulders and coordinating dark skinny jeans. i plugged in my straightener, and did my predictable procedure quickly, contouring and highlighting and everything else.
i straightened my hair to a pin and looked at myself in the mirror, not confident with how happy i was with my appearance. at that moment i heard an annoyed complaint from mitchel.
"laralyn i swear i'm about to drag you out of there." he moaned. i snickered and walked out of the room, facing mitchel. he scanned my body in a subtle manner, his eyes widening for a split second before attempting to play it off.
"okay you dressed up, now we can go." he muttered, interlacing his hand through mine. sparks traveled their way up my arm and my stomach shivered by the feel of his hand pressing into mine. i swallowed and nodded.
"do you like my outfit?" i teased him. he smiled. "it's beautiful, just like you. this date is gonna go great just cause i can stare at you the entire time." i blushed and grinned, feeling completely happy. by the time we arrived at the restaurant, the hostess knew him and evidently he made reservations.
wow, he really was optimistic in himself to already make reservations.
we were seated and i was gazing at the menu while we made small talk about his favorite movie before a voice broke our conversation. "mitchel, oh my gosh, hi i love you." a girl squealed, approaching our table.
i was shocked at the unplanned stranger but mitchel seemed used to it. "hi love, how's it going?" he answered kindly. she continued to freak out before glancing over at me.
"can i take a picture with you and your girlfriend?" she smiled sweetly. the breath was almost knocked out of me. "o-oh" he stammered, gazing over at me. "she's not my girlfriend but sure."
the fan squealed once again and had someone take our picture before she gave mitch an embrace, thanked him, and left. "that was sweet." i mumbled, trying to swap the topic from the issue of me being his girlfriend as quick as possible.
"yeah, she really seems to like my girlfriend." he cracked up. i rolled my eyes and was about to retaliate when the waiter came over and took our orders, thankfully interrupting that exchange before it started.
when he left, it was back to an uncomfortable silence. "so what have you guys been doing?" i questioned. he shrugged, and glanced up. "not much. did you know christian has a thing with some girl and i'm almost positive they're dating?" he informed me.
i grinned widely. "nooo way. not our young playa christian." i joked. "oh yep, he's whipped. her name is alexa. you should meet her sometime." he countered.
i was about to agree before reasoning about who i would probably have to face again. clinton. "i'm not sure that's a good idea mitch." i muttered. his eyes betrayed a modest bit of hurt as he examined me.
"and why is that?" he questioned. i shrugged. "i just don't know if it's something i can do." i replied. "lara, if you don't like me you can just tell me." he breathed out, annoyance evident in his voice.
i rolled my eyes and looked at him. "clinton." and that's all i said. he widened his eyes. "i'm stupid, wow okay. pretend i didn't just get insecure. i'll go back to my cocky self." he laughed.
i shook my head. "you're a special one, you know that?"
