3. Friendships Between Enemies

Summery:

   Merlin the merman. 18 and still has not left his home in the sea. Each year, upon their 15th birthday, a mer-person must travel on the surface and explore. Of course, they must never reveal their true form.
   Because of his stubborn wishes, and- he would never admit it- his scared heart for surface dwellers, he has yet to go. However, he stumbles upon a ship. Not knowing what it was, as he almost always stayed at the bottom of the deepest parts of the ocean, he swims closer.
   By mistake, he is caught in a turtle net and hoisted up onto the deck. There, he realizes that surface dwellers, his ultimate fear, reside. Even with the circumstances and a small misunderstanding, Merlin becomes friends with Scarlett, a red headed girl of the age of 22.
   Scarlett has sailed the seas for 12 years and has never come across a mer. A little apprehensive herself, she befriends Merlin.
   The following events intertwine their lives until they are almost inseparable. But. Their is still one issue. Merlin must explore the surface, or consequences will come.

(I was think a consequence would be something like slowly weakening and then dying or something. This would be because he had needed to find love on land, which he didn't know as no one told him, before his 20 birthday. Also, it could be any type of love. Romance, family, or friendship. Friendship he kind of has... so maybe not friendship...)
