MARE
"Rise and shine!" Someone yells, pulling the warm covers off of me.
"What? Really, Cal?" I grumble, wiping the sleep out of my eyes. He gives me a kiss on my cheek, smirking a bit at his victory.
About a week ago, Cal and I made a bet to see who wakes up first. It all started when we were both late to meetings in the morning– making Farley hide her anger through a shield of emotions so she won't blow up in front of everyone– and didn't wake each other up in time for breakfast and training. Of course, being the cocky little girl I am, I betted on myself. The others however, they betted on Cal to wake up earlier than me. Whoever loses would have to train the stubborn Newbloods we'd just recruited for a month.
Don't get me wrong, I love training Newbloods but that particular group– which ironically consisted of all girls– would rather have Cal to instruct them, especially since his biceps show when he hits a target with his ball of fire. He's also very lenient with them, not caring when they try to strike me, as the girls call me the strict Little Lightning Girl who ogles over her boyfriend.
Who can blame me? It's impossible not to drool over Cal's abs.
Now, I'm not one to just lose to a bet and to just train these stubborn Newbloods. Sadly, today is the last day of the bet. But of course, I wouldn't go down without a fight. I knew this would happen, so I prepared a little scheme to make things even, even if I betted in myself and we both agreed together to do this challenge.
"Cal..." I whisper, pretending to look ill.
"Hmm?" He asks, his amber eyes scanning over mine.
"I-I don't feel so good."
"And you're not saying this because you lost the bet?" He cocks an eyebrow in my direction, not convinced with my act.
Of course I am. I wanted to sarcastically say, but I shake my head in response.
"Alright. I'll be right back."
He turns his back on me, making the perfect target. I grab a handful of soggy oatmeal that's covered in peas and pieces of leftovers and cough and gag loudly.
"C-Cal," I say in between forced coughs.
He turns around, with worry etched across his face for a split second, before I make a gag sound and throw the substance on him. It lands on his face, slowly sliding down until it stops at his chest.
He freezes, making me hide laughter in my coughs, before I fall onto the floor ungraciously, clutching my stomach while groaning.
"Mare," He wipes off the goo from his face, before saying,"I'm worried now."
Aww that's so sweet but-
"Gotcha!" I jump up from the floor, slapping his shoulder humorously.
"You made me worried! I hate you," he laughs.
"Aw, you can't ever hate me," I wink.
"Come here," Cal motions, as I skeptically step closer.
Before I know it, he grabs the substance from his shirt, and plops it onto my cheek, smudging it until it lands on the floor.
"Oh no, you did not."
"Well, Little Lightning Girl, I just did," he shrugs, sending me a tentative smile.
I run towards him, climbing on his back while rubbing the soggy oatmeal substance all over his body. He laughs, grabbing some off of his shirt before rubbing it on me to defend himself, as we fight back and forth with the soggy substance. A throat clears, making us pause from our mini food fight.
