MARE
"I think you guys need to get him out of here," Cal says firmly, staring at a guilt stricken Farley and Shade.
"The Council didn't get the silent stone pack in yet. Who knows what he'll do to them?"
I stare at Shade who looks at Cal and Farley intently, choosing to not say anything.
"But he's no good if he just stays down there!" Cal throws his arm in the air with exasperation, letting out a groan.
"Your problem is that you don't want him to be here!"
"That's the least of my worries! Do you have any idea what he's doing to Mare?"
Cal found out that I haven't been sleeping for two weeks just today, instantly finding out it was Samson all along. If I hadn't been so tired I would've figured out by now but he's surrounded by silent stone. How could he reach me? That's what we're still trying to figure out.
"We can't just risk hundreds of lives for one," Farley sighs, running a hand through my hair. Cal gives her a bewildered look, clenching his fists together.
I continue looking back and forth at the two, tapping my foot on the floor impatiently. I'm surprised that after hours of standing, my feet haven't fallen asleep.
"I just want him to stop," I shrug, but they pay not attention to me.
A sting painfully fills into my mind, making me stumble a bit. The chair behind me scrapes on the floor, making a scratchy noise that makes me only wince more. Cal and Farley stop arguing immediately, and spare their voices to look at me.
I can feel Samson's fingers crawling into my head, keeping me alert and aware.
They're doing nothing.
"Stop," I whisper.
They're doing nothing.
"Get out," I whisper.
Strike them with your lightning.
I hyperventilate, looking for familiar amber eyes when all I see are piercing blue ones.
You're powerful right? Show them!
Sparks fly up my hand, but I quickly extinguish them with shaky hands.
You're the Lightning Girl who killed the Queen Elara. Strike them. His voice is more commanding, only making it harder to fight.
The sparks surround my arm, lighting up with none of my control. It's not even purple. It's navy blue.
It's one of the Merandus' house colors.
I scream not in pain, but in anger, kneeling on the floor. Shade comes closer to me, but I push him away.
"No, get out of here!" He looks confused, not knowing if I'm talking to him or the person controlling my mind.
Now throw your lightning at them.
The navy blue sparks sting in my hands, unfamiliar and cold. They bolt up into the air, nearly missing Farley.
Stop kneeling. Get up. Strike them.
I resist his order, fighting my own body to stop. It doesn't work.
Show them how powerful you are.
Cal nears me, but my hands are no longer in my control. Th sparks turn into a ball of lightning, and hit him square in the chest. He knocks over, looking uninjured but his eyes study mine.
Kill him.
"No," I shake my head, covering my ears. My knees go weak, as if Samson let go of that part of my body. I fall onto the ground but keep my hands on my ears, hoping that they won't go anywhere near the people I love in this room.
KILL HIM.
"Get out," I shout.
Farley helps Cal up, but she quickly sets her guard. Shade pulls her behind him instinctively, protecting her from any harm. Cal's bracelet lights up, ready to stop Samson's hold of me.
But the sparks are now all over my body, igniting more by the second. They get louder, stronger, more painful.
You're powerful. Show them.
"GET OUT OF MY HEAD!" I yell.
"GET OUT!"
"GO!" I yell at the three of them, but they don't move. Not even an inch.
"GET OUT OF HERE!" This time, I'm talking to both Samson and the three, hoping one of them will be logical enough to leave.
The sparks grow and grow, locking me in like a cage. I scream this time in pain and anger, the stinging sensation in my head growing until I hear ringing in my ears. My throat burns and I stop screaming, this time he's taken my voice.
The sparks finally go, but they surround the room and break with a BOOM, leaving my body. The lightbulbs burn out, and I hope deep, deep in my heart no one is hurt.
I let out a deep breath, falling onto the floor. His power is like a leech, draining all the energy left in my body. I can faintly hear his laugh, and I try to stay awake, but I close my eyes only to see Maven's devious smile.
•••
"Mare?"
The brightness of the room makes me squint my eyes, but I try my hardest to focus them.
"Mare can you hear me?" The voice is soft and soothing, belonging to Sara.
I nod weakly, and close my eyes again.
"You gave us quite a scare there. I was just sitting here and then Cal just rushes into the room with you in his arms, and your whole body has these burn marks, matching the ash around your skin. It's like you were thrown into a fire."
I was the fire. The burning sensation of how I couldn't even control my own body, or how the sparks felt so u familiar and cold it burned my hands painfully.
"Thankfully though, nothing's too serious and no one else got hurt."
"Oh that's great," my throat still hurts and it's hoarse. "Thank you Sara."
"No problem Mare. You get some rest okay? Tell Calore I'm ordering him to take care of you or I'll have his head by tomorrow."
I don't anyone to take care of me, I wanted to say. But I needed someone to take care of me. It's best if I don't want anyone to get hurt. Who knows when Samson's will force his way into my mind again?
"Will do," I chuckle lightly, giving her a wave as I leave the room.
Just then, someone storms towards me.
"You little son of a bitch!" Avery yells.
Hi guys! Sorry I haven't updated. I've been super busy with school.
But quick little note, Sara CAN speak in my version. I didn't want to get into detail on how she could speak but let's just say she can okay?
Anyway, happy Wednesday! Hope you enjoyed!
