For three days Andy didn't leave his room, covered in tons of blankets, hasn't showered, only to go to the bathroom, but even that took will power. He could smell himself, but he didn't care, not right now. How could he? Besides, who needs to bathe? Is hygene really that important? A knock on the door, he groaned. He'll decided to not respond and maybe they'll go away, it worked for the previous days. But there it was again, that delicate touch that told him it was his mother, giving three taps.
"Go away!" Andy sound tired, that's because he hasn't had much sleep.
"Andy, please let me in. I just want to talk. I think we should talk," She said through the wood.
"I don't want to talk, mom. I just to be alone, in my room, where it's safe, and quiet. I can't embarrass myself here."
"I know you think it's the end of the world, and I know that hurts. But you have to let me in, you can't shut me out again, Andy."
Andy grunted, finally getting out of bed, opened the door, and fell back into bed. Andy ignored the squeak of the door's hinges, his mother's light footsteps, and how the mattress went slightly down when she sat down.
"What's going on, Andy?"
Andy was blunt. "I don't want to talk about it."
"Okay. What do you want to talk about?"
"How unfair and cruel life is."
"Oh, baby. Life would always knock you down. You just need to get back up."
"It took weeks the last time," Andy dug his face in the cushion of the pillow.
"And it may take longer, or it may take a few days. It doesn't matter how long it takes you to get back up, Andy. What matters is that you do get up."
"I think I still love him, mom. And I don't want to." Andy turned around, facing his mother for the first time since she walked in. "What do I do?"
"I can't tell you what to do, just what feels right. What do you think is best for you?"
Andy didn't know what was best for him. Right now, he felt like he was in a life boat in the middle of the ocean, with a hole, using a bucket to empty the water from the raft and dumping it back in the ocean. He needed to patch this hole if he ever wants to be happy. Finally, he knows what he has to do.
Andy took his bike, pedaling all the way there. He had showered before he left. Andy hopped off his bike when he arrived, running up to the porch and knocking on the door. Andy waited a few minutes, anxious. Andy heard the click of a lock, the door swinging opened.
"Hey." Andy said.
Derek stood in the doorway. "Hey, Andy."
