Rosette was in her hotel room getting ready for the small gala being held at Queen Victoria's palace. She wore a dark blue gown with her now shoulder length hair straightened. Along with her gown was her small white fuzz coat that her mother chose for her to wear.

She just recently got her hair cut the day before which she did not enjoy much considering she has been letting her hair grow out since the age of fourteen and was pleased with the waist length brunette hair that she has-well had. But her parents wanted her hair cut to the shoulder because they said it made her look more mature and with maturity came more beauty and the more the beauty, the more pleased her "fiance" and his family.

You might be wondering why fiance is in quotation marks. Well, that's because he's not her fiance but is her fiance.
Still not getting it?
To be more specific, her parents arranged her into an engagement to a man named James Williams. He's rich, handsome, and cocky. And that's all Rosette new within the span of two months. Him and her never really conversed much. With him hitting on many other woman without their parents knowing and her avoiding him as much as she can, they never got to know each other. But like many other twisted novels, love appears in the most strangest way's. Or at least that's what her parents said when she told them that she can't marry someone she doesn't love.

Now all she had was Phillip to lean on when she needed someone to make her forget about her issues.

In fact she was finally going to see him at the gala too, after two weeks of being stuck with her family and the Williams who also were preparing for the private event.

She wondered what Phillip would think about her new hair look, what he would be wearing, if he had plans on sneaking her out of the boring event to mess around and keep her mind on anything but reality.

That was the only thing she looked forward to at this event.

A knock sounded at her door along with a soft "Come in." from Rosette.

In came in James, dressed in a matching dark blue suit. His hair was styled with gel and his well defined jaw moved as he smiled/smirked at Rosette.

"You look dashing." He complimented her.

"Thank you James, you cleaned up well." She smiled, but it did not reach her eyes.

"May I ask why you are here?" She asked wiping her sweaty hands on her gown.

"Right, our parents are waiting for you in the carriage. They asked me to walk you down stairs. And soon I obliged." He answered holding out his arm.

"Oh um, okay then, th-thank you." She internally grimaced as she walked toward James and slid her arm through his.

And once they made their way downstairs and into the large carriage Rosette put on her happy act for her parents and the Williams.

"Did you hear who else is going to be accompanying Phillip Carlyle to the gala?" Mrs.Williams spoke.

"No. Who?" Questioned Rosette's mother.

"A man named P.T. Barnum and some freaks." She replied.

"Freaks?" Questioned James.

"Well one of em' is a woman with facial hair." Said Mr.Williams.

"And, there are dirty people their too." Nodded Mrs.Williams.

"dirty?" Rosette asked.

"Colored and poor." Confirmed James.

Rosette narrowed her eyes before tuning out of the conversation by leaning her head on the window, looking at the tree's they passed by.
