"Guys this is-"
"Rosette Johnson. I-uh, I love your voice." A girl with a beard cut Phillip off.
"Thank you..." Rosette paused.
"Lettie, Lettie Lutz."
"Nice to meet you. Do you sing?" Rosette asked with a smile.
"Yah, I sing a little." Lettie shyly replied.
"She sings a lot. And she's amazing at it to." P.T. corrected.
"Well, I hope I could hear you some time." Rosette nodded her head towards Lettie before two other people came towards them.
"I'm W.D Wheeler. And this is my sister Anne." W.D introduced himself.
"It's a pleasure Miss. Johnson." Anne kindly spoke.
"The pleasure is all mine. That's quite the outfit you both have on, let me guess.....trapeze artist?" Rosette asked.
"Uh yeah, how did you know?" Anne asked.
"I've seen some of the posters in the village." Rosette replied.
"Right, um Rose these are the rest of the acts in the show." P.T. announced.
"It's nice to meet you all." Rosette smiled.
Phillip rested his hand on her back as everyone greeted themselves.
"Wait you said your name was P.T. Barnum earlier correct." Rosette asked.
"Correct."
"Does P.T. stand for anything?"
"Phineas Taylor Barnum." He answered.
Rosette smiled at him looking around at the circus members who were all talking with each other. Anne and W.D were trying to cover up there bodies as much as possible which made Rosette frown.
"Rose." Phillip cleared his throat.
"Yes Phil."
"Would you like to dance?" Phillip asked holding out his hand.
"I would love to. I'll talk to you some other time Phineas." Rosette accepted.
P.T. smiled at her in reply watching her and Phillip walk off. Lettie and the Wheeler's walked up to P.T. watching them laugh as they began to dance like everyone else.
"Are they together?" Lettie asked.
"She's engaged." P.T. replied.
"To who?" Anne asked.
"To that man over there, the one flirting with those two girls." P.T. pointed out.
"Does she know what he's doing?" W.D asked.
"She does."
"Then why is she with him?" Anne asked.
"Her parents arranged it." P.T. answered.
"So they are forcing her to love someone who won't love her?" W.D asked.
No one answered him, they all knew the answer anyways. They watched as Phillip said something into Rosettes ear that caused her to throw her head back with a laugh, Phillip watching her with a smile.
"He likes her doesn't he?" Lettie asked.
"I think she likes him too." Anne smiled.
"I think it's more than like." W.D chuckled.
P.T. frowned before he got an idea. They needed another act apart of the show, an act that would please Mr. Benette. An act that was pure, beautiful, and divine. They had a ringmaster which was Phillip, but what if they had a ringmistress. And what if this ringmistress was the one missing puzzle piece they needed to make the circus the most greatest show they have ever seen. He will just need to hear her voice in order to see just how good she is. To see how much she can improve. And to see if she's got what it takes.
"Phillip I don't think were doing it right." Rosette laughed.
"I don't think it matters, no one's paying attenti-." Phillip was cut short when Rosette's parents stepped in.
"Rosette what are you doing?" Her mom asked.
"I am dancing with my friend mother." Rosette sighed.
"No you aren't." Rosette's dad grabbed her arm, pulling her away from Phillip.
"Do you have any idea how this makes us look? Do you care about our reputation at all child?" Her mother asked her.
"Mom I was just dancing, is that a crime?" Rosette rolled her eyes.
"It is when your engaged, especially when it's with that Carlyle." Her dad informed.
"Well you don't see James trying to spend time with me do you?" Rosette exclaimed.
Her parents looked toward james seeing him lean into a girl's ear whispering something that made her flush.
"That's different." Her mother stated.
"How! Because men are allowed to fool around whenever they want to but women can't?" Rosette scoffed.
"Rosette stop being so foolish. We are leaving, now!" Her father commanded.
Rosette went to protest giving Phillip one last look seeing him smile sadly before James and his parents joined them in leaving.
P.T. ran up to Rosette before she left the room and quickly pulled her aside.
"Sorry, but I wanted to ask if you would join Jenny Lind in performing at our Arena." P.T. offered.
"I'm sorry but I don't think-"
"I promise you won't regret it. We have one of the best Arena's in New York and I may offer you a position in our Circus." Phineas cut her off.
"Mr. Barnum I am flattered, really. But my parents will never-"
"Please." Phineas pleaded cutting her off once again.
Rosette stopped resisting in his gentle yet firm grip on her arm and looked at him. Her head snapped back hearing her mom's call for her and turned her head back to P.T. who stood in front of her.
"Fine, I'll do it." She sighed.
"Have a good day Miss. Johnson." P.T. smiled at her.
Rosette smiled back before leaving once he released his grip. She ran down the stairs with her gown lifted a little in her hands, watching her feet to make sure she wouldn't fall and before she met up with her family she gave one last look behind her seeing that Phillip had joined P.T's side and was watching as she left the palace.
