A Hard Life: Ch. 22

"Come on, Kenzie. We're here," Kane said gently shaking me. I kept my eyes closed even though I heard him, I didn't want to wake up.

"Ahahahahaha!" I laughed as he attacked me by tickling me. "P-Please hahaha s-stop! Hahaha! I-I'm up see, hahaha, I'm up!" He finally stopped and I smirked, my turn. I jumped onto him and tickled him.

"Hahaha! O-Ok! Haha, I get it! I won't ever do it again!" I get off and stop.

"You better not do it again," I smile.

"I won't, don't worry." Kane then took my hand and walked me over to the door way with the others.

"What was that all about?" Jasmin questioned me.

"She didn't want to get up so I had to convince her."

I roll my eyes, "Convince, yeah, sure."

When we get closer to our stop, we jump off and walk through an orchard of apple trees. When we reach the entrance, there are other people heading in, including my mother and brother. For a place filled with peace, it gave me the creeps and I held onto Kane.

"Mackenzie!" my mother shouts. I look at Kane for confirmation and he nods. I let go and run up to her and my brother, Luke.

I hug them both and clarify, "My name is actually Kenzie now."

My mother giggles, "Yes, of course, Kenzie."

I smile at how easy she's letting me move on. "Who's that?" Luke asks nodding towards Kane.

"That's one of my instructors, Kane Ceaser."

"Nothing more, right?" I laugh at my brother being overprotective of me.

"Maybe a little."

He glared at me then grinned, "Make sure he treats you correctly."

"I will, don't worry."

"Mrs. Blossom? Are there more coming?" a girl asked my mom.

"Rose!" Jasmin ran up behind who I assumed to be Rose and hugged her. "What are you doing here?"

"Jasmin? What are you doing here?"

"I asked you first sis."

"I'm... I'm Divergent. I came here for refuge." So they're sisters, I can tell that Rose is older. "Now, why are you here?"

"My friends are Divergent and I wanted to come with them," she answered coolly.

"Alright then. Just be careful."

"To answer your question Rose, no one else is coming you can all go in. Johanna will tell you were you will be staying and that there are some ground rules."

We all walk in, my mother told me that Johanna wants to talk to Kane and I. We follow the directions given to us and find her office. She has a scar over one of her eyes that she hides behind her hair. Other than the scar, she's genuinely pretty.

"Hello Kane and Kenzie," she greets us as we walk in.

"Hello Miss," we say.

"I wanted to tell you how things work around here, since you two and your friends are the only ones from Dauntless." So, this is directed towards Dauntless people, that can't be good. Can it? "As you know, Amity strives for peacefulness. So please, don't get into fights while here.

"Second, no weapons are aloud inside Amity HQ." I look at Kane and I know what he's thinking. There's no way we will stay here without our weapons. "There will be a place to put your guns, you may get them whenever you leave here."

"Ok, thank you for your consideration to house us here," Kane spoke.

"Your welcome. Please, tell your friends of our rules. Someone will show you where you will be staying."

We nod and leave the room. When we're out of hearing distance, Kane says, "Don't give up your gun. I'll put away mine, but you keep yours incase of danger."

"Sure thing," I place my gun in my knee-length boot. The gun isn't that big anyways, and we go to find the others.
