A Hard Life: Ch. 16

I start limping towards the tattoo parlor, until I unfortunately fall thanks to my leg. Before I hit the pavement, muscular arms catch me. I look up to see who it is, and my emerald green eyes meet their grass green. Kane.

"Why am I always the one to catch you?" he asks helping me up.

I smile. "Maybe because you're the only one who cares if I fall."

He laughs, "I can't possibly be the only one who cares."

"Pretty sure you are."

"What are you doing here anyways? I thought you'd be with your friends at lunch."

"Oh, well, my stitches came undone during the fight. I was going to ask Sachi to fix it up."

"Sachi isn't working today, so she isn't in the tattoo place. I think she is with some of her friends doing who knows what."

I giggle at his comment on Sachi. "Ok then. I guess I should go back to the infirmary, sadly."

"I could stitch them up. I'm not the best at sewing but I think it's better than being seen as weak." He always knows what to say to me to brighten my mood.

"Sure. I'm pretty sure your stitching is better than mine by the way." He laughs.

"Come on, I think I have a needle and thread in my apartment." Kane leads me to his apartment and opens the door.

It's bigger than I thought it'd be, it has a living room and a kitchen!

"Sit on the couch, I'll go get the supplies." I nod and do as he says. After a minute or two, Kane comes back with the needle and thread and a cloth.

"What's the cloth for?"

"For you to bite on if it hurts since you won't be able to squeeze my hand." My cheeks become warm at the thought of just holding his hand. How odd.

"Ok." Kane did amazing with the stitches and made it to wear it didn't hurt so much. I hardly ever had to bite on to the rag! "Thanks," I say when he finishes.

"No problem. Try to be more careful though," he teases at me.

I smirk and says, "No can do, I'm in Dauntless now."

He laughs and walks me to the cafeteria. Natalie and Jasmin are staring at me when we walk in. Time for an interview it looks like.
