A Hard Life: Ch. 31

Jeanine thought it would be good idea if Kane, some others, and I stayed at Erudite for awhile.

Kane would be staying in his old place from when he was in Erudite. I can't believe I never knew! Jeanine was my tutor when I was younger for pete's sake!

I'm staying in my old home with my siblings and mother.

Jeanine said she wanted to talk to Kane, so she let me wander around.

I thought I should look around and see if I could find anything beneficial. The only place I could think of? Was were I was kept while I was captive.

The Dauntless guards there, are luckily, on break. I thought Jeanine was smart? Anyone with a dash of good sense would place half of them on break while the others stay here. Oh god, what have Erudite teachers done to me?!

I stumble upon the room I got stabbed thousands if times with a syringe with. Again, no one was in there. I look around and find some notes on a table. I look at them, they're just notes that Jeanine made for a new syrum.

What catches my eyes though, is that the person they tested them on, wasn't me. From the notes I can gather that they are male, about 48 years old, and, obviously, they're Divergent.

I also found, that they aren't in any of the cells I was in. There is a hidden door in this room it appears.

I inspect the walls closely and find that there's a part of the wall that's slightly off color. Maybe there's a switch or something?

I go back to the desk and search through it. Jackpot, a button. It must do something. Hopefully it won't sound off alarms. I pray that the odds will be in my favor, and press it. The wall slides open and I sigh in relief.

I walk in and there's a cell at the end of the hall. I walk towards it, could the person still be alive or in there?

"Hello?" I call out.

Then a voice I thought I'd never hear again responds, "Mackenzie?"

I have tears threatening to fall, eventually, I let them and I choke out, "Dad?"
